The site sponsor, Tire Rack, has a vehicle specific menu where you can choose winter tires only, it will show you all the choices that will fit.

225/40/18 Pirrelli 240 will work with your staggered wheels. The problem is you won't be able to rotate down the line....
After 3 months of looking at this problem I opted to go to a 17' wheel (C32 stock wheel) and am running 225/45/17 Michelin PA2's. A better profile for snow, rotatable, looks and handles great and priced right.

This is the setup Luke at Tire Rack recommended back in August and I think it was good advice.

Tire Rack can hook you up>>>>

If you are looking for some cheap rims, then I suggest talking to your dealer. A lot of the time you can get the new C-class sport wheels from people who are upgrading their rims. Often they get a credit from the dealership and you can usually buy them for the dealer's investment. I got brand new sport wheels this way for the price of one new amg rim. You are just going to beat the hell out of them in the winter anyway. The rims on the sports are 17's which are ideal for snow traction for this car. And because the new sports have almost the exact same rotors on the car and the calipers are no wider, you can use them without worrying about clearing the brakes. The cold weather eliminates a need to have more caliper to wheel clearance.

Which model # for the C32 stock wheel, do you have a picture? Why Michelins over Blizzaks?

Here's the link to Tire Rack. It the AMG 17" double spoke #203. It is the only 17" double spoke that will fit around the front calipers.....

Michelin PA2's over the Blizzak??? Both are great tires, I've just always run Michelins and have never been disappointed.

If you look on the driver's door sill, there is a listing of the mercedes's recomended tire size for winter tires. I believe they are 17inch. I just ordered a set from tirerack but dont remember at the moment the exact sizes.

I would recomend going w/ manufacturer recomendations.

I am considering the C55 for a future purchase and am starting to investigate. I come from a long line of BMW's and for many reasons, I now think an automatic is more suited to my style of driving and traffic conditions. The question I have relates to limited slip rear. I would be very interested to know if (with four snows or good all seasons at all four corners) driving the C55 in Winter is just too much of a challenge. I did this with my E36-M3 and E39-M5 and was able to get around OK but I always thought the LSD played some important role here. Otherwise, without LSD, I figure in a lot of slippery conditions, the traction control would just brake and cut power so you would end up getting nowhere and really frustrtated. Well, anyway, thanks for listening and drive safe and if some of you guys could post your Winter driving experiences, then I could add to my knowledge for possible purchase next year (hopefully).

Rgds,
Norm
