Question for M3 converts

I am about to pull the trigger and sell my 2002 M3 Cab in order to pick up a C55. The harsh ride and the many creeks and rattles have gotten to me. It's also a pain in the *** getting my two boys (9 and 10) in and out of the car. I test drove the C55 and was very impressed. It seems to have a good balance of comfort and performance (I also test drove the S4 and hated it).

Any M3 converts who regret the decision or who have any advice.

Thanks.

For you, the C55 is a very good choice. M3 is far too impractical for you and your needs.

Maybe testdrive the Caddy CTS-V??

Just out of curiosity... What didn't you like about the S4?

I guess that coming from the M3 I was very unimpressed, especially after all that I have read about the S4. The clutch effort felt way to light, heel and toeing is very difficult and in general (as with most AWD cars) I did not like the feel of the front wheels pulling during hard accelerating or in a turn. It just did not bring the grin factor that the M3 has or the C55 had during the test drive. I also felt the ride was as harsh as the M3, which is something I am trying to get away from.

Z06, M3, Mini Cooper S. Sold: C55
Your cab M3 will develop more creaks & noises from chassis flex than the regular coupe. That's pretty normal. The C55 will ride better, but doesn't have the handling balance or turn in the M3 does. I'd say the C55 does pretty well up to about 90-95%, which if you're looking for a practical, comfortable street performance car is about perfect. I'm still tuning up the handling of my C55 though...

it is easy to turn a car to a race car , it is hard to turn a race car into a street car. C55 is a much better balanced of both. I did not regret to buy C55 (even M3 is USD12K cheaper here in HK )

I'm sorry to say, CTS-Vs are blowing out rear-ends left and right.

One guy on there is on his third rear-end and if I recall correctly, he hasn't even broken 6K miles. The third one blew on the way home from being installed.

Other than that, I found it very comparable to the C55. I personally enjoyed aggressive driving in the CTS-V more than the C55, but the C55 seems to be a better car from an all-around perspective. Very close, though. I also found the M3 and the S4 too small for any sort of frequent 4-passenger usage.

Thanks for the input. I put a deposit on a C55 tonight. Best part is they have one coming in tomorrow that is exactly what I want so I won't have to wait. I'll miss my M3 cab on those sunny days here in the northeast, but I cannot live with the rattles and creeks and will welcome the 4 doors, softer ride and a spare (I once blew out a tire on a pothole that their stupid M mobility kit could not fix. Three hours and tow truck ride later...).
