C55 oil leaking!!

I recall someone did post about found "red-orange color" oil leaked , on the ground, look like from underneath the engine?
I found a lot of oil down where I parked my car not driving for 2 weeks.
Is this normal ? What is that oil ?
How to fix it if not normal?
Did it happen because I did not drive the car for two weeks?
Why it did not happen before even I left the car there as long time
Need help.

Cnt,

Don't worry, the same thing happened to me after not moving my car for about a week. It is a slight transmission oil leak, not too noticable unless you leave your car still for a long period of time. A problem nonetheless if you don't treat it in time. I did not even make an appointment, i just took it to my dealer & told them that my car was leaking a lot of oil. You should be ok

If its a red coloured fluid.. its the transmission leaking.. most likely from the electrical plug. you need to take it to the dealer to be serviced..under warranty of course!

Thanks . The oil down there was a lot !
Yep, it was still there for exactly 2 weeks .
Because it was the first time I saw my car since two weeks,
I wasn't sure if all the oil came off in one instant right after I started the engine, or it kind of leaking on a day by day until it is so noticable after 2 weeks.?

Oil Seal

I had the same problem on my C32 as well. It was from a defective O-ring on a electrical switch/sensor. 2 hours job at the distributor's workshop.

Get it change quick as you do not ant to run the car with low tranny fluid.

Anybody know typically how many miles before it starts leaking? If it is only noticed when parking for a long time, it could be a slow leak that you might never notice if driven daily. Does that mean the transmission fluid would run dry before a real serious problem is noticed? Is there any dash warning for low tranmission fluid on the C55?

Rgds,
Norm

Mine leaked at around 12,000km or 7500miles. From my knowledge the transimission will go into "limp" mode when the ATF falls below critical level. But don't trust these eletronic sensors too much. I still prefer the good old dipstick.

On the C55 I saw a tube with red cap (no dipstick) near firewall, slightly to left when looking at engine bay from front. Presumably this is for MB tech to place "service" dipstick for checking engine oil level. I did not see any dipstick for transmission. If anyone knows of one, please advise.

The one with the red cap you described is for the transimission dipstick on the C32. The engine dipstick is the one with the black cap above the supercharger. But I don't know where is it on the C55.

Btw, I see most Merc current models have the transmission dipstick hole covered with a red cap. It is locked and the only way to remove it is by breaking the seal. Only authorised dealer workshops can replace the broken seal.

Sales rep lifted it right out. I didn't see he broke any seal but will check.

According to sales rep (who supposedly checked w/service mgr), the tube near the firewall w/red cap is engine oil and used by MB techs to check oil. He said there is no transmission fluid dipstick in the C55. I have not confirmed whether or not the dash display would show any warning for low transmission fluid level but given that the C's are prone to leaking, that would be good to know.

Dipstick

Well I guess C55 could be different from C32. But other Mercedes models I've seen have a red cap for transmission dipstick. I've attached my engine photo for your reference.
