C55 Shifting Problem--Please Help When I hit the gas and then lift my foot off the pedal it feels like the car is being held back. It seems to have a slow downshift from gear to gear whenever you let off the gas and allow the car to reduce speed. It doesn't seem like it's coming out of gear--or downshifting quick enough--as the car decelaerates--or when you take your foot off the gas. At times, the RPMs don't seem to be dropping quick enough when I immediately let off the gas. Occassionally, while accelerating, it winds out in a particular gear (I'm not sure exactly which gear--2nd or 3rd), to the point (5000 of 6000 rpms) where I have to ease off the gas. Is this all normal because it doesn't seem to be. Any ideas what the problem is? I thought it could be the Transmission. Somone told me it could be a the Govenor Switch adjustment. I'm open for suggestions. The car only has 1600 miles on it! I test drove another C55 and it didn't do this, but it also didn't seem like it had as much power. Please help. Thanks, MW

mwiseltier this is what i can make out of this. The first thing to ask yourself is if you accelerate the car fast and do you do is often. If the answer is yes then the transmission being adpative, has adjusted to your driving style. Because of high acceleration the transmission will pull gears more often to the redline before changing gears. And viceversa will not downshift as often as you would like. Now the car you drove which did not feel this way and wasnt as fast must have been driven slower than you usually do yourz. This would make that car change gears fast and so seem slow.
I hope this helps and others agree with me!

Yes. this is true. After several 1/4 mile run, the cars feels light and it revs upto 6500rpm and shifts in my gtech. But before some hardcore driving it would shift at 6000rpm. TCU and ECU adjust to owner's driving style. Let the car ease off a bit. Then do a acceleration after one full tank of gas. U should feel the difference in pulling.

How Long does it take for the car to adapt to the style of driving? When you suggest that I ease off and try it after a tank of gas, what exactly do you mean. Please describe in more detail. Thanks, MW

Please make sure your Tranny oil is not leaking as most we here do have that problem. Low tranny oil level could make life strange.
