This may not be anything serious, but anyways yesterday before work I started the car (temp outside was 23 F) and a cloud of blue smoke came from the exhausts. It wasn't a tremendous amount, but it was significant .. The car drove like it always did, but I'm starting to wonder.... My transmission connector was replaced last month.... I've got 3K miles on the clock...

Not that knowledgeable about "smoke issue" but I don't see a connection between transmission connector and blue smoke out exhaust, unless maybe you mean they disturbed something else during that service visit.

from what I remember, blue smoke is burning oil...

if it was cold outside, I wouldn't be surprised if it was white smoke, that's completely normal, either idling or accelerating.

Actually the smoke was related to the transmission connector before, if you read the below thread... Satunstyl (who's a Benz tech) said that the replacement transmission connectors are worse than the originals....

Maybe someone can explain how the transmission connector leaking can cause smoke out the exhaust.

This was Saturnstyl's explanation to me:
"It leaks on to the exhaust... The exhaust is much hotter under WOT, plus you are moving at speeds to cause the fluid to really fly off and hit the exhaust. "

I can see it burning from hitting the outside of the exhaust but can not see how it gets inside the exhaust to be able to come out. Well, nevemind, I don't think there is any good explanation that would make sense to me. Hopefully you don't have any problem, or if you do, will get it resolved quickly.

just a note...... I took my car in yesterday to have a broken fog light replaced, so when I went in to pick up my car, I glanced over the invoice and along w/ the expected work-order done for the foglight, below it, to my surprise, there was an additional work-order for the tranny-seal-leak-connector thinga magigey @ NO CHARGE!!! ....I didn't even mention anything in regards to that w/ my service advisor, because I've never experience any of the signs (leaks, mis-shifts, etc) that others here on the forum have to initial a checkup.....based on the decription on the work-order it seemed like a very extensive and thorough job (1 page long full of car tech mumbo jumbo!!)...so I just went on my merry way w/o questioning it w/ anyone ....so this is my theory: MBUSA is aware of this on-going tranny leak/problem w/ the C55s, so I guess whenever someone takes his/hers in for service, check ups, etc, they have a mandatory check on the tranny to see if it needs fixin or they just fix automatically for you....

Eric, I checked my oil level last Friday and it asked to add a quart with 3200 miles on the clock. I checked it as I routinely notice oil burning off when I first start the car. Smae issue with my Vette. I think its normal and I'm not going to have it checked.

Coming from some high-performnce BMW's, I don't consider having to add 1-qt every few thousand miles a problem.

Adding a new engine is a problem but a few quarts of oil? NO worries right?

I'd be weary about buying a normally aspirated 6 cylinder engine that made much more than 300hp unless it was going to be rebuilt after every race.... BMW needs to stop showing off about how they can make so much out of something so little... Fast, but will it last?

20,000 of the 28,600 M's with the S54 engine face recall for major engine overhaul or replacement. Pwn'd.

The E39-M5's have reliable engines and use oil also. Not a problem unless "excessive". BMW defines excessive as more than 1-qt in 800-1000 mi I believe. I wouldn't be surprised if MB has some similar specs. Still, I hope mine doesn't need a qt before about 4Kmi or more.

The C32 does not use a quart in 10,000 miles. You can beat the **** out of the motors and no oil consumption.
