Will used C32s get cheaper anytime soon?

Hi

I am looking for a Silver on Black C32 with Nav. But they are few and far between and expensive.

Any reason that they would be plentiful in a couple of months? Off-Lease? Upgrades to new C55/E55?

I am in San Francisco

Thanks!

Yes, for all those reasons. Maybe not "plentiful" but they will be out there. Be patient and alert and you will find one. The prices for such cars, (even limited edition) unfortunately go down, not up. These are not high-end exotics. Remember, when people do not have to sell, they generally overprice the car. Now, having said that, sometimes CA behaves like a country of its own. You might do better if you widen your search and be prepared to travel for it.

Rgds,
Norm

while shopping for a car back in June I came across a white c32 with only 14K miles and the guy was asking only $34K... to this day, I wish I had jumped on it on the spot...I called the next day and it was sold

prices are still near $37-$40K even for high mileage c32s

Note the prices of the c36 and c43 and that should give you an idea of future pricing. Keep in mind that the c32 will be more desired for its out of the box abilities as well as the ease of upgrading it into a real performer.

Exactly.... Typically on these low volume AMG C-class cars the value initially takes a HARD hit, then it stabilizes and remains there for awhile... I'm guessing it won't take another big hit until the new AMG C-class hits our shores...

i'm in bay area also. it took me several months to find one at the price i wanted. to tell you the truth, though, it seems that C32 prices have stayed the same at least or maybe even gone up a bit (used ones, i.e. with comparable mileage) compared to when i was shopping, and that was a year ago. true, because a year has passed, there are more cars with higher mileage and thus it seems that the prices have dropped, but if you compare c32's with similar mileage to what i saw a year ago, they seem to have been holding value. for a while, when the C55 was announced and just coming out, the c32 value plummeted, but it has seemed to regain some resale value. i think that lots of people don't know what C32 is, so the fact that it's a "supercharged v6" is appealing and the fact that it's rare allows people to raise the price. IMO a lot of c32's sell new for around mid-50's to mid-60's out the door new...and for someone with a somewhat rarified car to sell for mid-30's (or at least the dealer selling for that), espcially with only regular mileage, does not seem right. i know that new value is drastically different than used, but there is some pride from the owners to retain and the market seems pretty steady because of the fact that the c32 is rare, and pepole tend to use that as a justification for a higher price. i mean its still an AMG car from a current chassis (though replaced by c55) which still looks current, performs almost the same as c55. just because the c55 is out does not mean that the c32 is obsolete (though i do love the c55), and because c32 is discontinued, i think sellers try to use that as a bonus point for keeping its value fiarly high. it seems that c32 value dropped then rebounded.

but just keep looking everyday i think you can find one that's against the perceived trend. good luck with your search.

2002 C32 Black/Charcoal
Lots of people were expecting C32 prices to plunge with the introduction of the C55. In my May 28, 2004 post I disagreed with their doomsday predictions for the C32:

"As far as the effect of the C55 launch on C32 price, this issue has been pretty well discussed already. Allow me to summarize: The C55 is a slightly nicer car than the C32, but the C55 is also considerably more expensive. My personal feeling is that (1) the used C32 market already reflects the pending intro of the C55, and (2) the elevated price of the C55 should actually work to support, or even raise, used C32 prices. IMHO, the C55 at $60K versus a used C32 at $35K is a no-brainer (in favor of the C32).

The long term prospects are more uncertain. If MBZ eventually launches a $60K supercharged C55, both the C32 and the N/A C55 are going to tank, but this is premature, like worrying about colon/prostate failure in high school."

This goes to show that all of you who think that I am a COMPLETE IDIOT are at least a little wrong

C32's have terrible re-sale value. When I parted with mine a while back I was offered 33k for it by many dealerships. Now that 9 more months have passed the car has fallen to 28-29k trade in value. I am with Frank here the car is dirt cheap already and there is a WONDERFUL red C32 on e-bay for 35k. These cars are a steal but that mean owners are taking a beating.

Sad but so true. Only 2004 C32's are still in the mid 40's... the rest are getting cheap.
