Just Raced a New C6

Just had a couple of great runs with a new C6. All at highway speeds(HWY 407 East /GTA). First from around 120kph to Vmax-253kph dead even. Second run from 150kph to vmax, I think I had a slight jump on him and maintained a lead of 20 meters (60 ft) til Vmax. We both flashed a 2 thumbs-up as he pulled of the highway. Funny enough I saw him again about 1 1/2 hours later going the opposite direction and we both laughed and waved as I went by.

Nice to see

PS: I should mention that when I hit Vmax he kept on pulling past me. I'm shipping my ECU to Kleemann next week!!!

Nice runs!
I have heard terrible stories about the 407! Alot of people get pulled over in that highway. I know a few people that have already! Just be careful!!
401 always seems to have less cops. The better section is between k-w and london!

C6

Interesting exchange.
I will admit however, that the results surprise me given the stats:

C55 362 hp 378 fp 3590lbs
C6 400 400 fp and more important only 3179 pounds.

That's quite a bit leaning to the C6.
How do you think you beat him?
btw, C55 is a really great ride, and my choice between the two. There are a million vettes out there, hell i've even owned two of them over the years.

Please see my edit above. I think really don't think I beat him. It was a very even exchange until I maxed

HMMMM very interesting. I am skeptical as well. I wouldn't think twice about a C5, but a C6??? I wonder if their may have been some operator error, he should have been able to pull you, I mean the Vette would have to work for it but it should pull you. they are quite a bit quicker and as mentioned the HP/weight ratio is heavily in the Vette's favor.

I thought it odd as well but we did run twice. I would expect to loose from a dead stop as well but from 120 and 150KPH I think the C55 has some guts. At least it did today>>>>

Thats one of my favorite things about the C55, when you are driving at highway speeds the accelerator is like a rheostat, the speedo seems to be directly connected to the pedal. I didn't get keyless go but I did get the standard insta go.

The outcome of the race seems entirely plausible to me. I usually hate "magazine racing," but the C6 is so new that mag stats are about all most of us have at this point. C&D and MT tested the manual tranny C6 in the high twelves, if I remember correctly. I don't think that I have seen a test on the automatic model. Presumably, the auto would be a little slower.

The lower weight of the C6 would give the C6 a big advantage from a stop, but the lower weight has less of an effect (relative to drag) in a freeway race. So, in a 1/4 mile run, I would expect a C6 with a good driver to slightly jump a C55 at the start, with the gap remaining pretty constant for the remainder of the run. I would expect a high-speed freeway run to be a toss-up, as it apparently was.

Sounds like a couple of great races! It would have been really interesting if you had the vmax already removed!

I am supprised that the C6 didn't pull away and I would fully expect to loose from a standing start but the C55 proved to have some guts in the runs from 120 and 150KPH

Yes, the run from 253KPH to 300KPH would have been very interesting>>>>we may never know>>>running to 253 is one thing but better judgement might stop me from finding out what would happen to 300. On my own for sure but not racing someone else>>>>TOO many variables!!!

So far the best 1/4 I've seen for the c6 is @ 12.9 at 112, far off the the Z06. They also seem to be dynoing about 20/30 hp less at the wheel than the '02-04 Z's. I'd imagine the C55 traps at close to 110 and I'm sure the top speed unlimited would stretch to 180+.

C/D test results:
acceleration, seconds
0-60 mph 4.1
0-100 mph 9.6
0-150 mph 25.0
1/4-mile @ mph 12.6 @ 114
rolling 5-60 mph 5.1

Then again I have a friend who took me for a ride in his Porsche 996 coupe... I told him at the traffic light "Show me what this thing can do." So he guns it and shifts into 2nd at 4K RPMS and shifts to 3rd at like 4500 RPMS... I smiled to myself and thought, if I raced him I could brag about killing a 996...

Its sad that with some of these particular Vette owners its seems to be all about "My dog is bigger than your dog!" This was just 2 fairly mature (read older) guys with a couple of new, fast cars that wanted to see what we could do. Everthing was amicable and we ran very even at the speeds we were playing with. No winners and no loosers and certanly no "KILL" I am sure we both went home secure in were we are in the world>>>

I do find their thread funny though>>>>

You call yourself mature.
Looks to me like you're one of these A..holes I see on the news at 11 o clock, causing havock on the 407.
Maybe you should get yourself a souped-up Honda, Toyota, Nissan, etc.& join ranks with the soupcan muffler crowd Ricers.

The stat to keep in mind is that rolling start 5-60 time...

...note that it's 5.1, meaning that the 'vette's 1/4 time is *greatly* helped by its launch. But rolling start, if 5.1 0-60 is the best it can do, well...that's pretty much the same as a C55, isn't it?

Oh, no wait: it's actually slower, at least according to Car & Driver, who did 4.9 sec 5-60 in the C55:

So, rolling-start, this is quite plausible. C55's are *very* traction limited, and so their 1/4 mile vs. rolling start times are tighter than cars w/excellent traction like the 'vette (nice big phat 285's help them, and a limited slip doesn't hurt them either!)

Talking Only when it's plausible, EKaru!!

If it'd been a Viper, I'd be a heckuvalot more skeptical, but actually, when I read that 'vette test and saw that rolling-start time, I had envisioned just such an outcome, and was looking forward to a C6 encounter...

But I'm not an attorney, although it's funny you should make that statement...I've actually been contemplating a run at law school here lately!
