I still like the Supra
On my way back from the gym today I got stuck at a light on a1a and noticed an intercooler and those big supra eyes in my rearview. It turned out to be a very clean white supra with zero rice accoutrements. I eased through the intersection and then full throttled through first and second and it was funny to watch his car come on boost and clearly close distance on me. It's rare for someone to pull on me from behind liek that when I have the jump, I want one of those for the weekends

Believe or not , the first time I saw the Supra in a moto show, that was the time I was most inspired and that's the best feeling of a exotic car I had encountered in my youth. I remember the HK price that time was US 70K, no way I could afford one.Yes, there are still plenty of them in HK.

The Supra has become a cult classic. If you can find an unmodded 95 supra, it will go for far more than it realistically should because the demand for them is so high. 97's and later did not have the power of the 95 prolly due to OBD-II.
They are very easy to mod up into the high 400hp range with zero problem diveability issues. There are several in this area that run low 11's or even 10's and are driven on the street.
I watched one being dyno'd at a dyno shop we use in Gaithersburg and the owner (of the shop) told me that you don't have to change the fuel injectors until you start getting over 500hp. Like Toyota knew people were going to mod and tweak them. Pretty cool...
Car does not look 'old' even now in 2005....

My favorite of the bunch was the 300ZX Twin turbo... The RX7 was too raw edged.. The back breaking ride quality and questionable reliablity made it too impractical... The 3000GT VR4 (supposed swiss army knife of sports cars) was the complete opposite of the RX7. It was full of gadgets and too heavy to be taken seriously. It even had a button to control the tone of the exhaust note.. The Supra wasn't as pretty as the Z and its chain driven engine wasn't as smooth as the belt driven 3.0 V6 in the Z.. The Z had the perfect combination of performance, feature content (super HICAS steering & electronically adjustable suspension), and style imho. I think the Z is destined to be a classic.. All 4 of these cars were very cool and it's too bad increasing prices and the SUV craze killed them off...

...you guys might enjoy these photos
this car only has 14K miles.
i wonder on the popularity of the supra had it not been for 2fast2furious..not taking anything away from the car.
tuners are extracting 10 sec 1/4 times from the 3000gt awd platform. dragging aint my thing tho......i may still end up doing some more tuning...i guesstimate for $10k i could get 500 wheel HP without too much turbo lag.

The 300ZX TT was a cool car and looked good, but it cannot be tuned to the output of the Supra without tons of money and basically becomes a rolling grenade. ZX was also very heavy.
I have a close friend that had both and modded both....the Supra was cheaper to mod and made much more power than the ZX.

Actually if I remember correctly the Turbo Z weighed about the same as the Supra turbo. Also the ZX had an aluminum V6 so obviously it wasn't as modifyable as the iron blocked I-6 in the supra, but I'm not into modding so I don't care about that...

C&D's website stated a Curb weight 3550-3600 lbs for the 300zx....no info on the Supra.
I would guess the Supra to be no more than 3200-3300 lbs....could be wrong.

Did you know that in 1999, Lamborghini bought out the Nissan 300ZX's headlights for their diablo to lower the production cost ......

this is suprising to me because I could not see an Italian exotic car company doing that, but then again, car manufacturer's steal/borrow from each other all the time.
When the C5 vette was introduced in '97 you could clearly see styling cues from the late RX-7 and the NSX.

As a second car to have fun on the weekends, yes... But I'd much rather be in the Z for day to day driving... I remember reading some time ago about a Mazda tech posting on is300.net and was sayiing how the engines were very unreliable....

The RX-7 is a fun second car and performs great, but reliability IS an issue. I have two friends that had them and the interiors literally fell apart (on both). Besides that, the motors are Bic razors at 100K....throw em out and buy a new one.
