So far (knock on wood), when I had the Check Engine Light it has been that I just didn't tight enough the gas cap
. I am sure you already checked that!Cheers

MO: CEL is for emissions systems. Possibly a misfire on one (or more) cylinders. Could happen maybe as a result of some moisture in gas, poor quality, etc. Fill up with fresh gas (maybe somewhere other than your last tank). If it goes away within a couple of days and does not return soon, have them check error codes on next visit.Originally Posted by Rareamg

Any updates on your car?, figured out what the cause of the check engine light was?

Hey guys,
I filled up with new gas engine light is still on. Taking the car in on monday hopefully it's nothing serious. I haven't lost any power, and the car drives the same. NO issues so far just that dam light.

Please let us know the dealer's resolution is.

From my past experience with BMW (assuming MB has similar OBDII technology, etc.), it could take a couple of days for the CEL to reset. Murphy's Law would dictate that the CEL will turn off minutes before pulling into the dealer.Originally Posted by Rareamg

Still, they should be able to pull codes from the ECU to check the cause, so you might as well bring it in for some peace of mind.

Here's what the dealership said
The purge valve was stuck open and not operating causing the light to come on. We replaced the valve and functioning great now.
What's a purge Valve?

less then 100 miles later (which is my post here) my check engine light comes up.
ended up being that during the 100 miles of the mis-firing of the engine, i ****ed my catalytic converter. ONLY 1 of them is ****ed but they are replacing both for free
does this make any sense? almost sounds like a scam, how can a car with 40k blow a cat out that fast?
---------------------------
filler to the story:
the transmission was replaced, while replacing the tranny they aparently put a coil back on wrong. they explain it to me by saying that the gap where the spark was supposed to light was too big. the engine was misfiring which was why my car was shaking as well as not running well... I brought it back to the dealership and they fixed this "gap problem".
