I may be able to haggle this to $2500 but just wanted to see what you thought. This would be to possibly purchase a 97 with 66k miles on it. Can probably get the car for $18k (dealer) as it's currently advertised at $19.9 and thought the 3yr 36k sounded good considering..
Also at what mileage do the belts get changed.. ?
TIA off to get my flight from Setac home to SFV

Wholesale the car is worth $13,700 - if its clean. The Warranty is only worth it if you can spread your mileage out over the entire 3 years , otherwise your making a bad bet.

I'd probably get through the 36k in 2yrs so maybe not then. I'm just thinking that $2.5k is only about 2 or 3 things to go wrong - we'll see -
Thanks for the details (numbers wise)

If you buy it , get the tranny serviced immediately. Don't listen to anyone who says its good till 100k - if it was it would be warrantied till then.Good luck.

Tranny issue affect 5 speed electronics tranny... the 4 speed hydraulic tranny is a bit more bullet proof.
(I don't want to get into detail into the issues with 5 speed tranny but there are other forum you could search for this info i.e mercedesshop.com, club202, and this site as well)
Then again, tranny is a wear and tear however you use it , it will be gone sooner or later. You service and maintenance it properly then you'll have it longer....than sooner...as simple as that..

If this is an original MBUSA warranty, you may be able to purchase the warranty from another MB dealer at a cheaper cost. I'm not clear if your transaction (car + warranty purchase) must go hand-in-hand. If not, shop around.
I bought a 2002 ML55 in 9/02. I waited 11mos, then bought the factory warranty extension from an MB dealer 2500mi away from me over the phone. I saved over $1500 by doing that. Common misconception is that you have to buy the extended warranty from the same dealer you bought the car. Not sure if it works on used car purchases, but it does on new ones.
