Could not find in MB manual...Does the 1998 year model possess the "express" open/close feature?

By "express" do you mean that you only have to press the button once for it to close/open (like the winodws)? If so, I don't think that it has the express feature. I say that with uncertainty, because lately my sunroof has had a mind of its own and has not closed immediately, therefore I have generally avoided using it recently. If memory serves, I believe it did not have the "express" feature.

Staplegun - if this is what you are referencing the answer is "yes" it does have that feature. You must be close to the car and point the smartkey at the driverside or passenger door handle while pressing the "lock" emblem on the keypad. Hope this helps!

What I am referring to is the feature, much like the power windows...momentarily press the button and the moonroof will fully close and/or open without having to hold the button the full duration of travel. Thanks for your responses guys - I always appreciate your input!

if you haven't tried that already try resetting the sunroof.
the process is described in the manual i believe, it's the same as powerwindows.
some nice guy actually described it here too, so try a search.
if you can't find it, i could type it up.
i had the same problem a while ago and it was driving me nuts!
then i found this forum and actually read the owners manual and i don't have any issues since. i even replaced the battery after that (every time you disconnect the battery you need to reset power windows, sunroof and bas/esp).

no, no express feature as far as i know.

hangup is right as well (that's the part of my car I hate) and StepleGun, I got an '00 ML430 and as far as I know the ML doesn't have that feature as well. I'll check our stock ML's as soon as I am at the office (maybe the Final Edition version has that feature)!
