What the )*&@(^@#)!+?

Drove my car to poker night last Friday night, everything fine, drove it home next morning, all is well. Go to start her up today to drive to the beach and it wont' start.

starter sounds good and battery sounds fine. Any ideas what my problem is?

And yes, there is gas in the tank unless the gauge is about a 1/4 off.

I am not real mechanically inclined, but if anyone could help me out and avoid having to have her towed to the benz dealer it woudl be appreciated.

Jeff

Are the LED's on the mirror flashing? If so, lock and unlock your car with the key fob, and try again.

Is there a sensor on the car that prevents it from starting if oil levels are low? I checked that last night and the dipstick showed a little less than half. I have no leaks, that i know of, and the oil was changed when I bought the car, so I am burning excess oil somewhere.

If you are "less than half" on your oil you might have bigger issues. Is the oil light illuminated on your dash board? It generally illuminates when you are a quart low.I would have your mechanic look at your car as soon as possible to prevent further problems.

NO light is illuminated, but then again, it is hard to tell since the car won't start. Will get someone to look at it soon as I have a chance.

Sorry to hear that Jeff. I had a similar problem a while back on a different car and the culprit was the fuel pump. I'm not sure how difficult it is to work on with the C43, but it's located near the rear passenger wheel on the C36 and is a breeze to replace. Also, if the car attemps to crank but won't turn over, it's not the starter. Best of luck!

Problems

Howdy Jeff, Sorry to hear about your latest problems. Your starter turns, so that's ok. It will be fuel or the crank position sensor. The fuel filter may be overdue with your car's mileage, so you may want to start with that...cheap, easy and accessible. It is located under a plastic cover in front of the differential (pax side). I believe you need a 10mm to remove cover. Hope this helps and as before, keep us posted. Off topic, another four weeks on the steering wheel???

Cripes, I have done this too - accidentally locking the car from within with the IR before inserting the key. It will crank without firing until the cows come home, or you cycle the locks with the IR and leave them unlocked.

yeah, i thought about the locks, cycled them at least 5 times (no OCD here) and still no avail. I was working on my stereo with it going for 20 minutes or so, engine not running, before the problem started, so a low battery could be the culprit, but I tried jumping with the minivan (company car) to no avail.

Thanks for all the tips, me not being mechanically inclined and a little chicken to mess anything up, roadside assistance is on the way. I'll let you know what they determine to be the culprit.

And yeah Staple, the replacement wheel should be here today or tomrrow so as soon as I get the other one mailed in, should be 4 weeks or so to get redone.

What a painful site to see your car carried away on a flatbed. My neighbors asked me if it got repossessed.

No the battery, not the starter, not the locks. That is about all the roadside guy could tell me. should hear more today.

My bet - I'll say it again - Crank Position Sensor.

I'm voting for the fuel pump.

I had the same exact problem - in my case it was the wiring harness. They replaced my ECU also, because they said the short in the wiring harness blew it out.

of course, your problem could be different, but I had the exact same symptoms.

Got my car back from dealership today. Those of you guessing fuel pump were right, sorta. Apparently when I had my stereo installed in the car, one of the bolts to secure down the sub box was screwed through the trunk and into the connecter for the fuel pump's power supply. I guess either one too many bumps or one too many thumps and it opened the connecter, thus cutting power to the fuel pump.

Good news: Nothing faulty with the car or the pump
Bad News: Now I am in a $600 battle with the auto sound place to get them to take care of the bill since it was obviously not covered under warranty.

Thanks for all your tips.

Good news part 2. The auto sound company that installed the sound system admitted their mistake and is already talking with the dealership to get a purchase order sent over to take care of the bill. Wow, amazing when things work out correctly.

Auto Sound store

All I can say, it behooves the auto sound store to act in good faith after their mistake...All we have to do is lambast their business for crappy service on this forum if they don't act honorably.
