C36 vs. C350 ?
About the same HP.
According to the datas from mbusa. C36 is a better performer by a small margin. Does this mean a 95 model C36 AMG is equal to or better than 2006 model C350 none AMG car? that means AMG cars are 10 years ahead of none AMG MBz in performance.

1997 Mercedes-Benz C36 5.9 14.4
MBUSA states that the 0-60 time of the C350 is 6.1s, but many magazine articles put the car at somewhere between 5.4 and 5.6s with a quarter mile comming in at 14s. If the above stated numbers are accurate, the C350 should be quicker.

according to this, C350 is quicker than C43 as well. How would you explain this? C350 is lighter? MB claims 6 speed manual and 7 speed auto has equal values for 0-60. So the tranny should not be the explanation.

I would say it is due to the C43 only available in a 5 speed automatic that may not have the optimal gearing. Both the C43 and C350 weight about the same.

1997 C36 AMG
substance,
Its all depend on what you're looking for.
Sure C36 AMG is a 10 years old technology from MB/AMG . The engine is fully-reworked by AMG engineers from a DOHC 2.8L I-6. and voila 3.6L I-6 DOHC were born. All AMG after these C36's and W210 E50's (that's right E50 never made it to US. 5.0 V-8 DOHC) all AMG car are SOHC engines.
On the other hand the non AMG line C350 is an execellent choice as MB decide to go back to DOHC again..
If you're looking for newer looks and newer style, I would go for C350.
Performance wise I would say they about equally. Off course if you want to take control on the gear shifting a 6 spd manual would be an excellent choice.
The are a lot of reason why C350 might run faster than C36's & C43's.
For one, they have better chassis W203 vs W202. (suspension design and geometry is better).
Secondly, the traction control on C36, and C43 is not that great..as they're a lot more intrusive. So C350 I pressumed will have better system...
If C36's and C43's were to have LSD from the factory that would be a different story.
Off course used C36's and C43's will be much cheaper than a brand new C350.
my $0.02

I love my C-36, but would not mind "trying on" a C350 sport packaged car.
Given the price for a new one, and my love for the large displacement twin cam inline 6, it probably won't be for a while. I do find it interesting that even though the 3.6 engine is "10 year old technology" it still puts out the same hp per liter as the 3.5 litre does. I realize that the cast iron block is outdated, and I would have liked to have seen variable timing on the exhaust cam, but other than that I still think it is a wonderful engine. just my 2 cents.
