Paintstorming
Hey guys, this is more of a brainstorming session than anything because I really can't afford to do much to my car now, but I have a couple of questions regarding painting the car.
First, how much do you think a good quality (MB like) paint job for the car would run me?
Secondly, I have thought about if I did paint it, going with something not actually available for 98 C43's, maybe a really dark midnight blue, or the pewter color (sorry, don't know actual name) available on the current C classes. Thougths? It would be original, but would it lose the "stock" aspect?
Looking forward to hear any thoughts you guys have, as I know this group has their opinions.

Recently I wanted to get my car painted, I live in South GA, after calling about 5 body shops, I found out that a good paint job is about 2000-2500 bucks. (I believe they strip the car to the BONE!) My problem with that is, what if they break something while doing it?
Color? Whatever your heart desires....

I asked the body shop today, who does all the paint work for the Mercedes dealership in town, what it would cost to repaint. $1800 for basic new paint some color, add more for time spent buffering out dings and nicks, $3000 for changing color of the car. FYI

Actually I was talking about my Saab, but as soon as they heard 4 door sedan, they game a same price range.
I definetely agree with you on redneck part. Not that I need a paint job, but where would you go then Frank?

From what I have found over the years and vehicles that came and went......you pay for what you get 99% of the time.
So yes $2500 paint jobs exsist. So do $1000 and $10,000 paint jobs.
I had my monster truck redneck winter beater fully sanded and painted for $1500. That was with new cab corners welded in (not much work) and a single stage paint job. The truck looks better than 90% of new trucks out there and it's an 88'.
Around here and what I've seen.....I would be comfortable being qouted $5000.00.

actually, for the `1800 keeping the car the same color, they strip it down, take off all the molding, etc.. and do it right. For the 3000 to recolor the car, includes inside the hood, trunk, doors, etcc. That covers everything, and they only do one quality paint job and that is the same as they put on a benz being repaired and sent back to the dealership.

Thats really good it seems.
The hard part now would be chosing a color. Man, that would be a tough one for me. So many to pick from.
I've seen a burnt organge C55 W202 that looked awesome!
I think that if the car was lowered with stock monoblocks then that Audi S4 Blue would look pretty tight also....

Yeah I had thought that a really dark midnight blue would be tight. I also like the new pewter color (I think it is called Desert Silver) on the newer ones. All a pipe dream anyway, as I don't have 3k sitting around, but can always think right? If I had the coinage, I would repaint, and recover the seats, I love this car, just want to bring it up a little more to date.

Black looks great, but already available, if I were to paint it would be a color not available that year, more rare. Less factory granted, but one of a kind
