For the $180 I think it's worth it, plug wires are subject to alot of electrical and heat related stress.

I'm gonna guess about 55,000 miles give or take 1000. They were the bosche platinum, single tip, assumed to be the original equipment. Replaced with NGK v-groove single tip and magnecore wires. The wires are nice quality.

Sorry to bring back an old thread..

I ordered the magnecor 8.5's, but my mechanic told me the wires are a little too big for the coil, did anyone else see this problem?

Thanks,

-Joseph..

I'm lost - did you buy these for a C43, i.e. from an autoparts house or what? What is exactly "too big"? Too long, inserts too long, length...clarify it a lil' better.

i bought it for the C43.. the M113 engine.. Magnecor 85240

I was told the head of the wire was too big to fit into the coil, as in the diameter was too big.. That's what i was told over the phone by my mechanic.. when I go pick up my car later on tonight, i'll get a clearer explanation..

So when you installed yours (I'm assuming you did that), did they fit without problems? I seriously hope the website i bought them from didn't send me the wrong ones, or else i'd be extremely ticked off.!!

I ordered them (spark plug wires) from www.autohausaz.com I've never had any hitches with their parts and my spark plug wires went on without a hitch. If you think they sent you the wrong ones, send 'em back. The ones I purchased are the Karlyn/Beru P/N 1131500019, when you spend over $50 shipping is free.

Also, this is not a hard DIY project...in fact I think you should do it so you can clean up parts and detail the area. Ensure you purchase those locking extensions - they'll make your life a whole lot easier. Yes, I do all my work on my vehicles.

The OEM wires for a CLK430 and a C43 are the same part. I thought my wires were 8mm. If that’s true, and the Beru’s are 8mm, then that could be the problem. Magnacore wires are 8.5mm. They may be .5mm too big.

Of course, that opens the age old ignition can-o-worms; are 8.5mm wires really any better than 8mm? With CD ignition systems, 8mm wires were actually needed. The old 7mm wires couldn’t handle much more than 30Kv. 8mm wires can handle 50Kv. Is anyone really running a 55Kv+ ignition system? If not, why the 8.5’s?

Just did my plugs at 103 and some change K. Wow, what a difference that makes. Should have done that a while ago.

It is a PITA though. It took me well over 4 hours all told. Once you get into the groove it isn't that bad if you have the right tools. Those harbor freight tools are pretty much required unless you are double jointed and have a grip like iron. I had to go out and get them. Luckily we have a local HF.

Also having several different sized sockets helps. There is a varying amount of space to work with depending on the plug. The driver's side toward the firewall is the absolute worst. That one took me about 30 minutes by itself because there is almost no room and I got the socket stuck a few times.

I'd also reccomend starting from back to front on the driver's side because its easier to pull the coil packs off that way. Passenger side makes no difference from my experience. Though don't forget to hook up a lead when you put it back together or instant CEL.

If I tacked it again it could be a less than 2 hour job. Including wiping dirt off the engine.
