Best year C36?

hey guys,

I am thinking about buying a C36 in the next 6-12 months. I wanted to know which year was the best C36 for modding capabilities and also as far as total power potential. If I am not mistaken wasn't there a OBD1 C36 in 1995? I also heard that the C36 engine specs from MBUSA were concervative and they actually dyno higher than claimed, is this true? Any help is appreciated. thanks guys

'95 cost a hell of a lot more for a brake job than the other years. '97s are the most desirable, but are also hard to find.

95 and 96 had 4-speed trannies while 97 has a 5-speed tranny.

hey guys, thanks for the tips. ya i realized 97 may be the best option for performance oriented C36 even though it is an OBD2 car.

hey guys. the more i have read about them the more it seems 4speeds are bulletproof and more reliable. Also is it true 95's are OBD1 or OBD2, I have heard 50/50 but nobody seems to have any proof for either. Also why the 7-8HP difference between 95 and 96+, is it just a claims difference because M3 also upped its ratings in 96 (for marketing reasons) or is there infact more HP?

My c36 runs close as a c43. So 268hp is underrated.
