Custom C43 headers update!
Basically I have two Companies that are going to be looking into the custom header build up for me. Well actually three. One price quote was 2250.00 for custom stainless without a group buy. I'm hoping I can do better than that! I have used chiromikey's stainless steel long header custom built for his E55k as an example to atleast two of the companies thus far. Yes I know the C43 headers have to be built somewhat a little differently.
I have to bring my car to all three outfits starting the beginning of January. I'll keep everyone posted with prices and progress. If there is plenty of interest one of the builders mentioned that he can do group buy. I will mention this(groupbuy) to the other builders as well.
Well I guess my car will be the guinnea pig!
Please note: The custom header may eliminate the primary cats.

I have a few grand I've love to blow on a set of headers. Any chance they'd be clandestine enough to pass the visual inspection of the California smog certification?

How much do you think a custom Vortec setup would cost?
A Custom Vortec system will cost alot more than a custom header setup. But then again that depends on what the people want.
This thread is a notice for anyone whom might be interested in headers. And whom only have the $ to spend on headers even though this would be a nice addition.
P.S. Someone started a thread on a custom vortec setup months ago!

I'm pretty sure the config would be like kleemann. Delete the primary and retain the secondary set. Weld in new O2 bungs to relocate the O2's to pick up from the secondary's rather than the primarys. This should be ok in terms of CEL's.....although I'm no genious.
I mean, people seem to delete their secondary's without any issues....it's really the same just reversed right?...
I personally am going to wait with my exhaust because I feel that deleting the primarys and retaining the secondary's is the way to go. Especially performance wise. Hell, kleemann does it.

Out Of Control!!
^^^ I'm with genius.
I think its great you're doing this Carl. If I had a C43 I'd be all in! There are not enough products out there for our mb's. ESPECIALLY reasonably priced ones

I've heard a few different things in terms of kleemann header costs. They seem to be about twice the price that carlski is shooting for. This is why I'm stoked about this. Being that they are custom a few options like thermo coatings would be cool also.

About $3,300.00 (2560 Euro's ) - according to the price list pdf on the Kleeman site.

I also inquired about the Kleeman headers for the C43 from a reasonable source that has them and he says that they were only(fair) marginally better than stck but better. He was not too fond of the craftsmanship.
I have a pr of W211 Kleeman headers right in the trunk of my car from JodyE55rocket,and I had two of the fabricators say that the long headers would wrk better. More power all around because the exhaust stays in the headers longer b4 leaving the collectors.
The headers that Kleeman sells are shorty headers which would actually wrk pretty well on F/I cars I understand. However the long headers give more power all around. You want the car to really haul *** and make krazee pwr,get rid of those primaries. This is what I'm hearing alot of guys say.
11 more days till Jan and I bring the car to either

That's compared to about 1k to 1300.00 less or even a little more depending on total interest for a set of custom made stainless steel headers. Chiromikey spent between 1600.00 and 2k for his. I'm not able to quote the exact price unfortunately.

NJ or Long Island. I'm really thinking of going with Brian and George since I know them(www.icsperformance.com) and they have dynoed my car several times. Here is an example of a 328i turbo they built.chk out there custom fab int mani:http://www.bmwturbo328.com/newbuild/tunning1.wmv

OK guys bad news. I had the guys at Kooks Headers look at my car today as I said I would. They feel that the area in the drivers side is too tight to build a nice header assembly so they also don't feel that building headers for the C43 would be profitable. Looks like I may have to go Kleeman or Renntech. They felt that if the car were an E class it would be a no brainer to build these things. The steering pump on the drivers side just creates major issues for them they said.
However it was mentioned that all of the piping from the stck collector could be chged to 2.5" stainless steel, eliminating the primary cats and then turn and run into high flow secondary. With that setup one would surely free up alot of breathing and have a nice hp increase. From the high flow secondary cats go to a 2.5" to 3" Y pipe and continue 3" all the way out to an aftermarket or the stck AMG muffler like I have if you so desire. A 3" inch stainless steel reso would be another option to add if one so desires.
Don't have the $$ to spend on the Kleeman headers.?Chng the piping leaving the stck collectors to 2.5" stainless steel. Eliminate the primaries(cats).
Economical and saves the car a ton of weight compared to the whole stck system. And you won't miss having headers.
