W202 Info???
I am looking at getting into my first AMG. Im looking at either a W208 55, W203 C32, or possibly a W202 C43. I like the Clk and C43 better than the W203 because the have more of a classic MB feel and look. You guys are welcome to post opinions on which you think is the best choice. I will be modding the car also. But my real question is are there any other good W202 websites I can check out to get more info on this model??? I've been trolling aound here for about a year and just joined yesterday. Your help is much appreciated. Thanks guys!

If you're looking at "modding" a C43 - bring your wallet, check book , and VISA/Mastercard.The engine itself - you can add a blower from HPS - Nitro can chime in on the cost vs. performance.Kleeman can mod the brakes,suspension,and add a blower...big $$$$.If "modding" is your gig , then I would look at the C32 , or the C55.

Modding is not my main concern. I'll probably do basic stuff first...suspension, exhaust, etc. To be honest I think that modding any benz is going to be expensive. I just have always loved the W202 style. How has reliability been with your C43???

Let me address the 2 "basic stuff" things.IMHO - suspension - this car has a suspension that MOST...MOST drivers will be happy with.If you must do something with the suspension get a "speedy benz" suspension.Search the forum on this topic- alot of research and money was put into the development of this fully adjustable racing suspension.I've driven a fellow members car that has it and it handles like its on rails.As far as the exhaust "Coolcarlski" has a thread open about "custom headers".As far as reliablity, I will say this...disregard what the "factory recommends" when it comes to oil changes , transmission fluid changes , and spark plug replacement.I change my synthetic oil every 5k , I had my tranny "flushed" at 53k - when I bought it , and I am due to change the plugs ( I have 66k on the clock).Other items you can expect to replace - mass air sensor , CPS - crank position sensor.

I just purchased a W202 C43 a few weeks ago. I was in a similar position as you in that I was also looking at C32's.
A few things that swayed me to the older C43:
1) Exterior styling. While I like the styling of the W203, I'm not so sure it will hold up overtime. MB is going back to squarer, more edgy styling with the newest models. W202's still look fantastic to me.
2) Interior. I'm not a fan of the C32's interior. The C55, on the other hand, has a great interior but was out of my price range by about $14K.
I test drove a C32 a few months back. It was a very powerful car and that supercharger kicks in nicely. However, the 43 didn't feel significantly slower than 32, so that negated any decision I made over power.
Overall, I'm VERY happy with my purchase. I am now the 5th member of my family to own a W202. My brother has one that is approaching 195,000 miles and running strong. My parents have a '00 C280 Sport with 80,000. These are very solid cars, the last of the really bulletproof Benz's. You won't be disappointed with a W202 C43.

However Dave how do you know when you're supossed to chnge the CPS, I have no issues.

Carl , you'll put the key in and turn it and get nothing - you'll then try it again and she'll crank right over.The symptoms will appear to be the starter - possibly diagnosed as a "flat spot", but it's the CPS.I would recommend changing it at 60k-70k.If it fails while driving the car will shut-off - not good.It's better to change it on your terms than have it fail on its terms.CPS costs like $100.00.

Not to mention how embarassing it can be to have to push your beautiful car to the side of the road. The car can/will stall at lower RPMs in addition to not starting. It also seems to be exacerbated by a warm engine. It's a 10 minute fix - maybe less if you have small hands

Thanks guys for all the help. Are there any other good websites to check out? The styling of the C32 is my biggest turn off on the car. Exterior is alright but the interior is just not my taste at all. There is a silver C43 that lives around me that is slammed and I have always thought it was absolutely stunning. There were also a few down at Indiana University where I graduated from that were also Modified. My jaw would always drop when I saw them. I just love how they have that classic MB style inside and out. Realistically are these cars pretty reliable and how many miles do you think one would run for given it was taken care of?

Okay guys, I just want to thank you for all of your help. I've been busy and haven't had much time for the car search or to get on the forum. I have been considering purchasing a C43 with higher miles. What are your reccomendations? I just figure it will be easier to find one with 80,000 to 90,000 miles on it, and send the money I save on maintnance items. I've pretty much determined the C43 is the car for me. I ruled out the other AMGs I was looking at. The only other car I think I'm considering now is my buddy's BMW 540i/6 sport.
