c36 and c43.......few questions

ok i've always wanted a c36......now i know the 97 ones are stronger as far as hp's........but the tranny is a issue......any problems with 95-96?? i see more those years for sale even though there rare to buy.........so what do i look for in buying one??

also can a c36 kit be put on a c43??? i like the c43 looks but love c36 styling......

thanks guys

i think it's the same issues to look out for, 95's are more prone to engine wire harness going bad, than 96+ models, head gaskets, slow leaks specially considering the age of the cars by now, O2 sensors at about 80-100k, bushings and more bushings ;p
but overall i still think they are tanks though compared to newer MBs. as far as bodykits go i think they are interchangeable. the biggest difference in the c36 and c43 imo is how much modding you can do to the engine, c36 is pretty maxed out (not counting TT versions, those are not proven reliable imo), when c43 there's always supercharger option. if you go with 96 you'll also have ODBII instead of ODBI, along with the upgraded climate control and cluster small changes, different badges. either way, at how much they are selling for these days, it's an absolute steal, you can't go wrong.

btw
i still miss the car, just such an understated classic

Go C43! Engines and Trannies are always available if there's a problem in the future.(430's,500's,55's).

Yes the C43 moldings and bumpers all work on the C36.

Very rare man, you look on autotrader, the lowest mileage C36 in the COUNTRY is like 76k miles.

yup......c43 with a c36 body kit i guess but who knows.......price wise, the c36 is much cheaper and i don't want something to mod up or cost that much since i'm on a budget at the moment.......

i've looked around the area, theres one in oc area but the miles are a little high but not too high and theres one in las vegas that i might go see

1991 300sl 5 speed manual
While were all on this subject of changing things out. I want to buy a c36 engine and put it in my 91 300sl. The reason is the SL is very slow because of it weighing 4100 lbs. Ok 4300 with me in the car. The 228 horse 3 litor engine just isnt doing it for me. However because the car is a 5 speed Getrag Manual I think the C36 engine will be a great performance addition without adding weight to the car. What do you guys think of that plan. JJ

+1

Also, the 4.3l isn't supposed to be that much heavier than the 3.6. I think it's in the area of 30-40lbs.

Alex,

Looks like you have a tough choice on your hands. C36 has slightly more history and character than a C43, but the difference in performance is pretty noticeable. I love my car. Especially the way the V8 sounds. If you're ever in the SD area, you can take it for a spin to help you decide.

thanks bro......i'm pretty sure i'd love the c43 but i'm not really looking for something for speed but overall the c36 is tight just like the c43......i could easily get a c280 but i don't want to put the money into making it look like a c36 with the kit and all.....but i also don't want to wait around for long to find a c36........i guess i'm not in a rush but hopefully it i find something closer to home i can get at a good price.....

since i got the car 2.5 years ago, it had 49k miles on it, i have the original owner service records book, and i haven't done anything major since i bought it. i have records for oil changes and tires and normal wear and tear stuff i had done. its in very good shape and no problems at all. it has no leaks and dont over heat. there few chips on front bumber and hood from driving on highways. i drove 3 times to chicago and quite a few to L.A. i dont drive the car much, my work is 3 minutes away and i drive it on weekends for a bit.
