question about oil light on dash

my oil light on the dash has been coming on and off for minutes at a time, over and over. my oil level is full, and no leaks that i can see. engine temps are normal, and the car runs great with no other weirdness besides the oil light. does anyone know what this might be?

thanks...

how "normal" is the engin temp?

reading around this problem looks is not one off. not allways it is a faulty sensor. how hot is running your engine? the temp should not go over 90 gr celcius (the temp indicator should never go over the top of the nr 8 from the 80deg celcius number). it is a fair way to go still on the white scale till the red zone. can you hold with a stick even with your finger (be brave)the fan in the front of the engine while the temp goes over 80? yes ? that's not good. at 85 this should take off like a propeller cutting your finger. when you rev the engine to 4500 one of the watter hoses close to radiator, on the top right, it is sucked in obstructing the water flow? yes- replace the cap on top of the radiator, it is blocked, rusty it is not breeding. all of these small problems indicate, sometime in the past your engine was overheat. how bad? bad enough to create problems deep inside to make the oil light to come on randomly, usually when you go fast to 150-200km/hr (ok all this time) and slow down quick to 80-100km/hr (now the light will come on) and can go away when you'll go fast again or you stop and start again and cruise at a moderate speed. this is what I experience in the past and all is accurate and real. might be other reasons which I not aware of .

I've recently had this same issue - light goes on then off after a couple of minutes. Just started doing it after a recent wash so I'm guessing a sensor got wet or loose. Might need replacing too? Anyhow, oil level is fine, car runs right at 80 of the temp gauge, picks up fine, nothing strange sound or feel wise. Can someone point me to where I can check on the sensor? Where it is located and how I can find it. Any help is appreciated!

It's usually a faulty sensor but there is one other thing to consider. When does the light come on, is it during/after sustained high revs then goes out after slowing down or is it completely random.

I have seen a low oil light come on at higher revs especially when cold on engines with sludge. Basicly the oil drain in the RH head (which drains to the back of the engine) blocks up and at higher oil flow/high revs the oil pools in the head until the level is high enough to start draining down the timing case. thei pooling causes the oil level in the sump to drop enough for the oil light to come on. Not very common, but it does/can happen. Usually causes some blue smoke at the same time but not always.

It's happened three times now all at cruising speed on the highway. I'll have the cruise control set and it'll light up then sit there for a couple of minutes then go off. Really bizarre - and only after I gave it a wash this last week. I don't use a high pressure hose on it, just a garden hose - but maybe something got wet as I never wash the engine bay.
