lowered c36

i lowered my c36 and i am having weird steering issues. at really slow speeds, like pulling into a driveway or parking lot, when i turn the steering wheel the car wants to keep turning. like it's driving itself. i've replaced the upper control arms, idler arm bushing, lower control arm bushings, and the ball joints. i guess the only thing i really havnt touched is the draglink. has anyone experienced this problem? if so, what did it take to correct it? thanks for your input

Would I be correct in assuming that you had the car aligned after doing all of this?

yep. i had our best alignment guy at the shop align it. it only happens at parking lot speeds. ex: if i had the steering wheel turned 3/4 of the way give or take a little, and i let my hands off the wheel it wants to turn to lock instead of correcting itself and trying to straighten out. i'm pretty sure it didnt do this before i lowered it, and i cant recall driving any other car that did this.

It really depends on the suspension design. I think it is normal on the Benz because of the suspension geometry. If it is really jerking, don't these cars have a steering damper that likes to go bad?

it's not normal. if it was, i wouldnt be worrying about it. i'm a benz tech so i drive theese cars everyday. mine is the only one that does this. thats why i was asking if someone else who lowered their car had the same problem. but i know on a car at factory ride height, it isnt normal.

<~~ retired tech.

the steering box design isn't that great for the whip back action that you are looking for from a steering rack. theres nothing wrong w/ ur car.

CFLPEAK-

Yep...my C43 does the exact same thing...since I lowered it....and not before. I used the MB springs described as Euro AMG springs. They were installed by the dealer and it was aligned by them at the time.

I agree that it doesn't feel right, and I'm planning on asking the dealer to look into it soon. Other than that issue at parking lot speeds at about 85% steering lock, the steering feels great.

that's what i meant- it's normal on these cars when lowered.

why does it bother you? it's not like the vehicle dynamics matter too much at 5 mph...
