Air conditioning issues...

my 95 C36 has 85k miles...just got the a/c recharged a few months ago...a/c is cool, but not cold..no problem, I can accept that for a 13 year old car

Recently, I've been having a few issues with the a/c...

1. The direction for the vents for the a/c is not accurate. When I push the button with a top AND down arrow, cold air doesn't always come out.

2. When there is air coming from the center vents (on top of the stereo), the air from the side vents (next to the doors) disappear..?

3. Air is always blowing to the front windshield, regardless of which button I push.

4. At times, I can't get cold air to the feet when it's hot outside, but I can get hot air to the feet when it's cold outside...really weird...

Summary... a/c direction buttons usually don't correlate with the vents, air always blowing into the front windshield (robbing air from front, side, and feet), difficult to control cold/hot air to feet

Thanks for any advice!

Check for a gray plastic line (pax side) along the firewall, it taps into a vacuum source - it may have slipped off. You can see the elbow in the lowermost arrow, the top arrow points to the location along the firewall - this line being disconnected my be the source of your problems...

took a look at this gray plastic line...it was on there and you can twist the elbow....probably not the source of my problem. I was not sure as to what to do with it...unplug and plug it in again (it is twistable)?

Follow that gray vacuum line along the firewall towards the engine - it usually slips off there, not at the elbow. Don't tamper with the elbow it's plastic and it's just a ninety degree T.

Finally had the guts to feel around and discovered the sections of the hose (close to the rubber "L" shaped connector) was burnt which caused a leak in the hose...(you guys were right!)

I had no luck trying to find this line in the AC & Heat - Climate Control section at autohauzaz http://www.autohausaz.com/search/gro...mate%20Control

-where can I find this line?
-is it hard to replace/remove and install?

Thanks!

Just clean up the end (make a clean cut) and add some rubber tubing - any vacuum line will work, no need to buy MB line for that, it's just a vacuum hose. Come on guys get a little imaginative here, otherwise your MB ownership is gonna be a costly one.

I bought a foot of some rubber vacuum lines at Kragen....also thought about getting some 'heat shrinks' to provide more protection as well as possibly looking for some 'heat resistance' metal material/wire to wrap around the area that burned so it won't happen again...

well...I'm off to try the fitment and to see if my ac vent selector will work...wish me luck!

UPDATE****

IT WORKED!!!! For the first time after I bought this car, I finally have control of the vents!!!

THANK YOU StapleGun (and others for your input and encouragement) !!!

The way the line sits 'appears' (from feel cuz there's no way to see down there) to be away from any surfaces that might burn it...so it should be alright...but I'm wondering why it burned??

Could you zoom out of the picture so I know where is that gray line located. cause by looking at your picture, I have no idea where to look.

on our barely driven c36, a/c was recharged but still wasn't cold. turns out it had 6 seals that failed or cracked or something. might be something worth looking into. my wagon had two o-rings around the condenser that cracked and let out the freon or whatever they use now.

those high engine temps can really weather alot of the items in our motors. i have wires that run along my fuel rail to the fuel injectors, one of which has an area on its protective jacket that has been eaten away. the two wires inside are pristine, but i think im going to wrap 'em before they get damaged... we should all keep an eye out for these weatherable items as they could be a future source of hard to diagnose problems.

Your car has a different system.Come downTo the w210 section and run the dual climate control onboard climate control diagnostics program. If you have issues with your A/C.

Thought I'd just continue this thread to ask about my a/c "problems"...

The a/c did not blow cool or cold air when I got it last November. But it did get a little cooler after I got it recharged at a local indy shop, the thing is, there was no freon in the system prior to recharging it so it was a 'freon issue'. It's been many months and I've lived with the a/c being a little cooler when I set it at "Low"...it's been pretty hot here in Socal and would like to enjoy some nice a/c (I'm not expecting blowing snow, but something much cooler than now would be nice)

I'm interested in recharging the freon myself...what advice do you guys have and what brand/type do I need to get (from the local Pep Boys, Kragen, Autozone, Super Autobachs, etc...)...

Thanks in advance!
