New Wheels - Do you need a staggered setup?

I just found a nice set of black powder coated AMG twin spoke wheels (Replica) on tires.com

They are 17x8's. The rep recommended going with 225/45/17, so I can rotate the tires (he said the 245/40/17's would be a bit too big).

As you all know, we have 225 on the front and 245 on the rear.

What are your thoughts? Should I stick with staggered rims or not? I rarely break 100 in the car, usually do about 80 on the highway.

Thanks to all!

225 up front is pretty much max, no you cannot rotate. You can probably run 18x8s all around but you will still have to stagger tires.

Our cars don't have the same rolling diameter front and rear. The wheel speed sensors won't like the fact that they are rolling at the same speed and your cruise control may not work anymore. I got stuck somewhere with a blown tire and ended up having to put 245/45's on the back of mine and that is what happened.

What size

are you oe rims and tires?
Of course they are the same rolling diameters without that you abs would not work, nor esp or any speed related system i.e. cruise control
the profiles are different but the rolling dia stays the same within (.2) inch
Staggered you can go 225/45/17 with a et37 on the front and 245/40/17 with et 34 on the rear. 7.5 rim front 8.5 rim rear. These two sizes are within 1% of each other and well within the acceptable 3% error margin in revs per mile.
or you could go with 225/45/17's on all four with et 35 but on an Amg that might look to wimpy

check tirerack or discount tire for more selections.

if the car is a C43 go staggered. It would be like nudering(spelling?) your AMG. Next time you see a regular W202 look at how narrow they look with the rears tucked in. Its well worth not being able to rotate the tires. Fatty's belong in the back, and by god I dont mean chicks.

I agree if you go wider on the back you must go lower in profile as cruise control won't work properly. I had 225,35,19 on the front and 255/35/19 on the rear which did rub with people in the back and also my cruise control did not work over 40mph. I now have 225's all round and it works fine.

He said 17x8.

Would you really run two different tire widths on the same 8in wheel, on the same car? I would not.

not that big a deal.. it would be stretched up front while the rear would probably look even buldgier than stock.. specs on the tires should allow for it... usually, 225/45ZR17 has rim width range of 7-8.5, and 245/40ZR17 has rim width range of 8-9.5"

If you run 245/35 et35 in the back and 225/40 et35 in the front on 8 in. wheels all around, will there be a lot of lip overhang on the front tires and will the wheels line up right with et35 all around? Thanks!
