C43 vs 540i????

I dont get it, how can a car with more weight and less power be faster, on paper E39 540i is heavier and has 280hp but its 0-60 time is better

how?

Is it the torque, transmission?

I dont understand these things

I raced one of them the other day and he couldn't keep up, went up to a 100 rolling out of the corner

do the stats on the paper lie?

what are you talking about?

the 540i sport does 0-60 in 6.0. it weighs 3800 lbs and has less hp but more tq.

and just to settle any further disputes. were not talking about the 6 spd 540 but the auto. my good friend's little brother has a 540i sport automatic. weve raced several times and ill beat him by at least 2 car lengths to 60, every time. we argued this comparison for weeks before testing it in real life, and im sure the outcome would be the same across the board.

issue resolved. i wajure the c43 would also beat the 540 6spd too if the other driver had perfect shifts. but thats rare, so id say that it would DEFINITELY beat the 6spd one too.

I raced one of these

http://www.fantasycars.com/sedans/HT...sport_e39.html

you make it sound like a c36 is faster then a c43?

a car with less power, same chasis, and a heavier engine cant be faster then a c43(hopes this doesnt turn into another c36 VS c43 thread)

Sometimes paper stats lie, and more importantly a 0-60 time is not really that telling about a car. But to answer your question, gearing and transmission can certainly make the difference over a narrow speed range (like 0-40 mph for example, or some other range for that matter). MB's are notoriously slow from the dig, and this is because they are geared for highway/"autobahn" cruising. I wouldn't be surprised if a 540i/6 held its own through 30-40 mph.

sadly, due to the gearing and transmission (unless your race an auto 540) you "should" be behind all the way up to 70 or 80- it's very hard to regain the time lost right away.

if you race them from 40-100 it should be very different story

It might have been the regular 540i, isn't there an M tuned 540?

I took my car out on the freeway today and at 80 this car goes crazy when u hit the gas

even my old 280 felt much faster at higher speeds

Your C43 should pull very well at highway speeds. It doesn't always feel as fast as it actually is, so you may need to glance down at the speedometer to verify. Mine moves from 75 to 100 very quickly.

I don't use the selector to downshift. If you're at 40, it'll need to downshift to start pulling hard, so it will take a second. Mine comes on strong at 3000 rpm.
