BAD MPG On C36

help me out here guys, i topped my tank off the other day, i reset my clock and i drove about 35 miles, i car chewed up a quarter tank, leaving me, 3 quarters tank, (75%) i don't understand what is goin on. there is no gas leak, checked the car well, also i just changed my oil ignition wires, plugs are good, coils are replaced, and resistors (the part under the coils), engine is clean, i drive nicely in my car, and i still get bad gas milage, my buddy moe has the same car as me it's identical, and he's getting twice better milage than me, what could this be? i'm also still having this power lag on the freeway wtih my my rpms having a hard time stayin in one spot, when i tap the gas down a little more, the rpms dip then the cars moves up...i don't know what else it could be? i'm reallyt baffled, i bury the gas, the car lays down rubber like no 2marrow tho, i mean upon ttake off it really lays out...so it has power...bt i stll don't know. oh and tranny fluid WAS JUST CHANGED LAST WEEK

Someone recently has a similar issue, turned out somehow gasoline had gotten into the fuel lines via a bad fuel pressure regulator or something of the sort and as a result they had to flush the full system. he too was having gas disappear at an astonishing rate. It may just be a bad fuel level sensor, hopefully its not worse, check all your vacuum lines to make sure theres no gas in them.

wow that's pretty nuts, gas in the vaccume lines? hmm i don't thikn thats it for me, i do'nt smell gas at all, bt it could be my fuel regulator, i'm gonna have a full test ran on it for 80 bucks the same guy who did my tranny fluid change, i took my car to a buddy in foster city, he charged me 220 for everything including fluid. the old fluid was black. it was a good call. car shifts like new you really can't feel it shift all hear is the engine fall into the next gear.

the car that I sold had that and yea now that I have a c43, I can tell you my old car was getting bad gas milage(94 c280)

I didnt smell any gas either but I did have startin problems

heres what my friend wrote

"If you guys dont know I bought PJmaks old C280 after he toasted the engine.

hes always had a long crank issue, I didnt think much of it it wasnt too bad for a 94 C280. it got worse especially when the engines been warmed up. I swapped engine and the problem persisted. I was fiddling around with the car running and replacing a few vaccum lines ... I pulled one off and got fuel pissing all over ?!? yeah ... fuel in a vaccum line ? my fuel pressure regulater diaphram was bad and engine vacuum sucked fuel from the rail causing a long crank and having gasoline troughout all the vaccum lines everywhere. the original fuel rail was removed along with the injecters in it and tossed up on the windshield when I was removing the toasted engine so the original fuel rail and stuff was usedon my new engine. new fuel reg. poped in and it fires up INSTANTLY!!!

just wondering where ELSE could that fuel been sucked into ? yeah ... talk about gas guzzler - I knew somethings up when my e55 would get better MPG even when I have my foot deep almost to the radiator!"

check that asap, especially if you smoke in your car

i honestly think he did the right thing posting on the forum, these cars usually tend to break in the same wayso someone usually knows exactly how to address the issue. it sounds like we already found one of the potential causes.

of course it doesnt hurt to get yet another party to analyze the problem..

My C36 gets 17mpg mostly city. When I fill up I reset the odometer. When its time to fill again I divide the miles with how many gallons. The way gas price is now it really doesnt bother me. My Clk55 gets 26mpg highway 70+mph.

well if youre running on those steep SF hills esp in the city i wouldnt be surprised. my bro lives there (hes a berkeley masters grad overseeing the bay bridge construction) and every time i visit my calves burn like crazy after only a couple blocks of walking on those ridiculous hills....

300 miles a tank is about as good as it gets iirc.. +/- 50 wouldn't be too far off.

south or north? 880 can get pretty congested either way... especially b4 238 northbound or after milpitas southboud..
