Exhaust Mods
Gday All!
I'm getting bored with my lack of recent mods so I've turned my attention to the exhaust.
I've only removed the resonator and replaced it with a straight pipe for some added noise which I really like the results of.
I'm trying to decide between getting Kleemann headers (way too expensive in Australia (3900usd/6000AUD, but no other bolt in options) or getting custom 2.5in piping from the std headers going into 3in to the rear muffler with no cats (I have no rear O2 sensors, so no engine lights).
A nice sound is quite important and HP is secondary to that. I'm a bit worried that having no cats will make it sound "a bit off" or raspy. What has everyone here done that has worked but still sounds nice?
Thanks.

I heard a guy who took off his cats on his C43 and did some motor mods and it sounded a bit raspy. On previous C36 I removed the cats and there wasnt much change in tone. I have not tried it on my C43 yet. But there is significant top end performance gains.

Thought ur plate would of read Z06EATER - around these parts there's an orange 996TT loud convertible with plates reading 'Z06EATR'..or something like that.

I've looked into it a bit further, I've read all previous posts I could find for a W202/W208. I know a few of you were refering to your C36's, they are quite different in regards to the exhaust due to such a different layout and exhaust note.
Basicly I reakon I have to get the Kleemann headers, fit 2x100Cell high flow cats (otherwise the sound will be a bit to raspy and then I can leave the resonator out). I'm keeping the std rear muffler because I doubt there is any power there (but quite a weight reduction) and it sounds/looks right.
If anyone has any other ideas that they have tried then I'd love to hear about them.
Thanks.

'97 c36 amg
Hey I have noticed alot of owners of black c36's. They look like the exact car that I am considering buying. What sort of price should I expect to pay on a stock '95 c36 with 130k on it.
Thanks in advance.
Nice video by the way, love the look of the car.

Replacing your stock secondary cats with high flow 200-300cell metal core cats should yeild strong results. You are correct, not running cats will give it a more raspy sound which is why I recommend 300-cell metal core cats for a good balance between the two. The gains of straight pipes over high flow cats is not that much (high flow cats will get you roughly 70-80% of the gains of straight pipes without any of the downside).
Our C43 headers should be out relatively soon. MSRP will be a very reasonable $1250 USD. More info will be available soon. Thanks.

here is sound clip if it helps.

Stock manifolds and primaries. 200cel secondaries, 3in rear section, no resonator, and maganflow muffler. I would think headers first would yield better results as with my system I still feel the front half is the restriction. AMG did pretty good with the rest of the exhaust.
