Weird C36 amg issue - not starting
OK, so I bought my beloved C36 a couple of months ago and it rand perfect, started everytime, no weird noises or anything to mention. Because I have a few cars, it sat for a couple weeks (without a battery tender) while I had the headliner done in black alcantara/suede (which is an AWESOME upgrade and I recommend you do it if you have a saggin headliner).
I went to start the car today to take it for a nice drive in the cool weather and it wont turn over. I put the key in, turn the ignition, and it sounds like its about to start, but just wont turn over all the way. Checked the battery voltage (it was fine) and hooked it up to a battery charger with a "jump start" feature with 50amps. Still doign the same thing. A friend of mine says using another car to start it is the preferred method since you get more than 50 amps. Tried that and it doesnt work. Took the battery to autozone to have it tested - checked out fine.
What the hell.... Any suggestions? .... and of course, now I need the radio code! can I get that from the dealer?

You should have the radio code card in the little black leather baggie or w\e that comes with the car
I had a similar problem but mine would do it maybe once or twice in a row and than start no problem
lubed the ring gear and it hasn't done it since

I was always uner the impression that the battery started a car and the alternator kept the electronics running once the motor was started. I assumed that the alternator would NOT prevent an engine from starting if it had juice in the battery. Is there a way to test the alternator without starting the car? Do you know if it is a large job on the c36?

no, it shouldn't be a large job, u can clearly see the alternator when u pop the hood. and labor time at dealer time was pretty quick.

well, the rearview mirror is currently off the car until i finish the headliner 100%. I would assume that the anti theft would stop the car from even cranking. THe car cranks, but doesnt turn over, leading me to believe it is a "hardware" issue rather than a "software" one. When your anti-theft was triggered, would your car crank at all? THanks!!

Someone had this problem, it would crank and crank but would not turn over. It WAS the anti-theft after-all. A hardware (computer) problem would not even crank the engine at all. Double check that anti-theft, i'm positive its activated....

jsut so you guys know (in case this thread is referenced in the future), fuse #27 was blown (i think it was a blue 15amp fuse). The rearview mirror was not the cause of this.

Crank positioning sensor.
There is a sensor that can fail quite easily inside your engine bay that detects the position of the crankshaft.
If the sensor fails, the Fuel pump thinks sumthing is wrong and wont send fuel, thus only turning over but not starting.
