once the snow storm subsides ill be installing them and ill post the pics here.
Jay, you could spray it with clear coat. I would just put some car wax on it to protect it from the elements. Then every now and then a quick once-over with a metal polish like MAAS and follow up with a quick waxing, Meguiers, Turtle, anything will work. Keep me posted Jay, glad your happy with them.

Thanks Tony! Sure not out just looking for a buck, if I'm going to be charging money for a product it better be as close to perfect as it can be within my abilities. This is a product that I don't want return customers...EVER! .

Hey man, thanks for the offer! I've got so many asking right now and only two sets of legitimatley completed emblems. I think for now Jay's varying climate and the New England climate will be the harshest fluctuations that these things will see. Here it dip's under zero degrees in the winter, up to 100 degrees in the summer with wicked wicked humidity, I think all the bases are currently covered.

Ben,

The emblems look really good. I saw in your profile that you're an engineer. You seem to be using a lot of the same methods that we use for prototyping parts. Just need to get a hold of a 3D printer and then things can get really interesting. Very good stuff.

If you don't mind, could you shoot me a few tips on the carbon fiber lay up? I've done some vacuum bagging with formed wood veneer, but not CF. Also, do you have any suggestions on a turn key vacuum bagger set up? Thanks.

Eric

Eric, thanks a lot man! Being an Engineer is more like a hobby for me, Computer Science is what my degree will be in. I may do graduate work in Electrical Engineering down the road. At the end of the day, I love doing things with my hands, the smell of curing resin, and skinned knuckles. I'd die being a pure academic. The most ironic part of all this is that I was considering to add a rapid prototyping printer to my collection of toys this past month. I will be PMing you tonight!!! I could do some amazing things with a machine like that, but I know nothing about them, time to learn . I'm also going to have to bud up on my CAD skills as well if I'm going to make this investment. If you've done veneer your pretty much set. CF has so many routes you can go though, I'll pm you with some homemade vacuum setups I have made and try to get a better idea of what your trying to do so I can give you some worthy advice for sure. I think we are going to be good buddies

1995 C 36 AMG; 1992 W124 300E (M103 Ex Mosselman TT KIT) was 320hp @10psi now stock :(
Finally its warm enough for me to install the emblems and pics really dont show how much they add to the look of the car.
Sorry for the chipped bumper paint, but thats what 150mph trips does to it. :S

Pricing and first customer beta testing photos!

Jay! AMAZING! They look so friggen sweet man thanks so much for posting pics of them. I feel a bit more excited than I should be only because I'm now realizing that I made those! Really awesome feeling! Seeing them on your car Jay just made my day! Any of those following this thread feel free to comment and/or add suggestions.

Jay and I have worked out what we feel would be a legitimate and resonable price considering the cost of the dealer item and the supurb quality of mine compared to the OEM's. These are handmade to fullest degree and will be stamped/numbered with a matching certificate when avaliable.

For those of you that are just itching to see how bad the dealer will screw you on the OEM emblems:

The larger OEM emblem cost is $440 ( as the emblem and engine plastic are not offered seperatley)
The Bootlid OEM emblem cost is $63.00
The small front apron emblem is $83.00

(All are USD)

I have concluded that a price of $100USD shipped for the set, a larger and smaller emblem is fair. $135.00USD shipped for a tri-set of one large emblem and two smaller emblems. This pricing scheme is not set in stone, I want feedback from you guys. I do put quite a bit of work into each piece let alone the time invested in just the materials to create the things, however, I want to be resonable to my fellow forum members.

I am also thinking about putting a restriction on whom I sell to. Should I ask potential buyers for proof of ownership of a AMG vehicle? Nothing angers me more than seeing a improperly AMG badged Mercedes. Am I being too much of a purist here or shoudl I just let people do what they want?

Feedback feedback feedback!!

I kinda agree with using these as replacement badges only and not wannabe stickers.

That said my front one is ok but my engine cover one is failing

Great work! They are impressive!

I want a set!!! Please dont sell to non AMG owners, I am so tired of seeing non AMG cars with the logo's all over it! It makes us look bad, when people take obvious beaters, and throw badges all over them. Im not trying to be mean...but seriously? Thanks for the info, and please let me know how to purchase. Thanks

IMO I also think that the pricing is fair, but if you keep up production of kick *** parts like these emblems, im gonna need a frequent buyer rewards card! LOL,maybe some frequent flyer miles with purchase! J/K

Are the 95/96 engine cover emblems raised like the one you made? Mine appears to be seperate pieces on the engine cover much like the trunk emblem, only black.

here's a pic:

It looks to me as if someone changed yours from stock as mine is the same on the engine cover as on the trunk lid. I also have a 1996.

Yup, OgdenC36 is 100% correct. That is NOT the stock OEM emblem whatsoever. The newer AMG's have that emblem design but ebay also has tons of these knockoffs that look exactly the same. Your's could be a geuine updated emblem that the dealer sold (due to the rarity of the old school emblem) Or the PO could have put a cheap ebay knock-off on. Sad part is that the "new-age" emblems are almost identical so you could'nt even tell a difference, both cheap plastic as well.

IMO I think the old school emblem is much more suited for AMG, meaner, and just an overall better looking emblem.

I believe its original, the black is flaking off and the same colored material as yours appears to be underneath.

A salesman here at work also has a 97 C36, but with 59k on it- Original owner. That part has never been replaced on his car- it's identical in size and position to mine.

I always wondered why they added the /// to the logo, anyone know when did BMW come out with their M logo? I prefer the original plain AMG logo... and I definitely don't like the new change they did to it making the A line up with the M on the 212's.

I too love that old-old school style! Any chance I could borrow one or I'll track down a part number and bite the bullet.

I'm a bit confused as to you and your buddies original owned C36. The official AMG emblem part numbers for the AMG C36 are as follows:

  • Front Apron Emblem___WA1045840143___$83.00
  • Engine cover_________WA1041500275___$440.00
  • Rear AMG Emblem____WA2018170315___$67.00

I will confirm that these numbers also coincide with all of the C36's 1995 through 1997. In that case all of your emblems should be exactly like mine if they are truley stock. However, like I said I will call and see if the part numbers match for each year or if they changed at a certian point in time according to vin #. Thanks for all of your input man, keep PMing me ideas!

That goes for everyone, keep the ideas comming!

I've got a few of the older badges... painted, chrome, gold plated...

No part numbers, AMG wasn't MB back then.

A guy on BW from australia made some real nice repros and still has a few- I bought one but they're mostly for the 1986+ models that dont use pins to hold them to the trunk lid, they are adhesive and is slightly different from my other pre-85 ones.

I Litteraly just pulled out my CF fabric stock thinking about this! I;m so tempted to make a mold of mine and see how well the carbon fiber defines the C36 indentations!!! Then I either leave it be or fill the "C36" indentations with a black, or gray pigmented resin to match the two-tone interior.

Not much progress guys, school exams are hitting me hard and I'm almost done restoring my Red Wing, 2 speed buffing motor. This will be my main tool in finishing the CF and Alum parts to a close to mirror sheen. Resin will be mirror like.

Jhon is the inlay a plastic piece? This would be a small and easy mold, def a vacuum mold though then finish it with resin or layers of fiberglass. PM some Ideas, you're my "Idea" guy

Hmm that could be cool. Would look nice with a CF interior instead of the wood trim. I like my wood though, guess I'm an old man at heart

Slightly OT, but did you get my PM bout CF intake?

Yes its a piece of plastic. If yours is in better shape then mine was, you can use it to make the mold, I can send it to you before I have my guy paint it- but just don't lose it!

I may need some carbon fiber inserts for my 16v the ones in the car now are falling apart.

well small update on the emblems im testing. In the last week i had the chance to subject the small bumper emblem to all sorts of weather. We went from having a snow storm to a tropical storm and now for the last to days some sort of strange dry dust wind and temps close to 28c'
any way the emblem still shines but and only when looked at from up-close, real up-close do u feel it could do with a quick polish.

Still it has transformed how the front looks and the way it shines in the sun is really sweet.
As for the engine one, well it is just like the day i got it, no fading and no need for a polish.
Ben has done a gr8 job with the paint as the temps it sees are high.

Ill try to post some pics soon.

more evidence of later 97 C36 engine emblem style differences. This is the low mile C36 I have access to, its logo is in the same spot as the one on my car. Anyone else on here have a 97? if so post your VIN as well as a pic.
