Sorry for the bad macro, iPhone can only do so much! Better shots to come soon but this gives you a "blurry" gist.

I'll do some color matching with my pigments (even though I'm colored-blind )...white and black wont be an issue . Then I'll get some resin in the mold and see how it turns out. Lets see if there is any interest, I might be able to do carbon fiber inserts as well, ect. I know John is on board for color matching.

Roughly mixed up a gray-like pigment after work and mixed it in to some resin. In the oven it went, 30min later..........

SUPER NICE RESULTS, will sand it down with 400, 800, 1000, then 2000, and finish it to a mirror sheen on the buffer. Should be a really sharp piece, it'll highlight my shifter that was so long suffering from scuffed and stained vinyl.

Polished it a bit by hand just to see how well it will shine, and with minimal effort I could see my reflection. Few Mock up pics just to get a good idea. Still need to level the back out so it sits flush and fill out the edges for a flawless fit, but its basically on its way to the finish line. Next mold should put out A+ perfect repros, pop old out and pop shiny new in.

May have a carbon fiber surprise for you guys by the end of the night.....

Ahhh....I love my days off!

JUST FINISHED THE CARBON FIBER ATTEMPT.

I vacuum bagged it, unfortunatley I dont have peelyply, breather cloth, perf ect so there was quite a few bubbles that had gotten trapped. Although its not nearly perfect, it does show the effect. It can be done! Going to order some more vacuum bagging supplies soon so I can have a perfected Carbon Fiber shifter inlay avaliable as well. Looks super badass if you can look past the ugly bubbles.

Haha gotta love the carbon fiber!!!

I'll start focusing on the carbon fiber a bit more, gottta see if I can cover the bills from all the tooling and resins I've splurged on this month then I'll be ordering some bagging plastics! It's the bell lap!

Could easily fill the "C36" impression with colormatched resin...however, I think it would look kinda gaudy. The CF has a nice subtle steathy look but you can still no doubt see the "C36" without having to really look.

true... just thinking the carbon fibre pattern camouflages the letters rather well. perhaps it's just an artifact of being a picture.

Yes that would be correct, the photo does no justice. As with most photos of carbon fiber you have to see it to really appreciate how neat it looks. The C36 indentation actually stands out a bit compared to the rest of the part due to the simple fact that the bottom impression of the letters/numbers remains textured rather than the polished surroundiings, so this texture actually masks the carbon fiber underneath a bit whilist all around it the polished part clearly shows the beautiful 2x2 twill. Doing another layup as I type. Vacuum pump is pumping away, decided to show you my "poor mans" vacuum bag setup. Thank the fabrication gods for ziplok baggies lmao....

Much better results with the carbon fiber this time. Need to create more perferations in the homemade ply so the resin can flow out a bit more to rid of the tiny air pockets that are stubborn. Other than that, I've got the this one mounted in on my shifter allready! Looks quite badass and slick with the black interior, really compliments the interior. I'll try to get some better shots when the lighting is better tommorow. Till then I will keep experimenting with my layup techniques. Thanks for the comments guys! Keeps me motivated, I get into ditches everynow and then, helps to have a few brothers cheering you on, I appreciate it.

Jay, good idea! I could do these in alum pretty easily. Still need to adjust the sizing on my mold now but once I have that figured out I should be able to make some resin castings and then make a pattern board for alum ones.

haha thanks Denis! How is the C36? I'm almost positive my buddy took a few pics of your car at the DUBs carshow this past weekend, could that have been you, silver C36, same amg rims and rear spoiler as yours!?

Anyhow I hope you have figured out whats up with your 36, if not I should have some time now. Past 2 weeks were rediculous between work, exams, and not getting ANY sleep .
