started tear down for paint

No engine builder plaque either. I was under the impression that only started in '03 or '04? The engine I have is from an '02, so it should have that slightly higher compression ratio I believe.
I have just a stock crank pulley, just going to put that on. Currently assessing what other new parts to throw onto the motor. With the relatively low miles, it probably doesn't need the oil cooler seals or the timing cover gasket, but I will probably do them anyway. They are relatively cheap (if you buy them from the right place, ie. NOT the dealer!), and as you said, they are much easier to replace with the engine out of the car. Probably get a new idler pulley at the minimum, I'm going to double check the other pulleys first. The idler seems a bit rough to spin.

these c32 rotors are not as sexy as the c43 rotors with the HWA stamp!

c32 rotors feels like they are cheaper in quality not only the price being cheaper!
Yeah, do some of the replacements on certain parts when your engine is out of the car, not inside in the bay.

On the first engine picture, what is the think bolted on the top front of the engine (round holding bracket and electric wires coming out on the left side?? It don't exist on the 43 motor.... only the round alu bracket
upper round bracket is empty on my car.
part got something to do with US import regulations.

Marcus, I will measure the ports when i start taking things apart. I don't plan to do any work on the car until spring/summer at least, as I will need my S2000 on the road before I tear into the C43. But I may tear into the 55 motor before then. I did note that the exhaust manifold gaskets are the same part number (on AutohausAZ at least) for the C43 and E55.
Aiming to get the motor onto a stand tomorrow. I bought (for half price!) a different rolling type of engine stand today, meant for small block Chevs I think. Hopefully I can adapt it sufficiently for the 55.

Thanks for the info

Marcus - I measured the exhaust ports, as I also took the exhaust manifold off, and it shows a 36mm diameter. Doesn't Nitrogen Balance have his C43 heads off? Perhaps he can be asked to measure the ports on his heads, unless they've been modified.
I was under the impression that the coils were different due to ME2.8 vs. ME2.0 (or whatever) between the E55 and the C43, and thus different connector plugs. While I didn't physically check the connectors, the Mercedes part numbers are the same on the coil packs, but the Bosch part number is different.
The Mercedes number is A 000 158 78 03 on both the E55 and C43 coils. The Bosch number on the E55 coil is 0 221 503 035.
The Bosch number on the C43 coil is 0 221 503 012.
And that's all I managed to do today, other than installing the SLK pedal covers.

Can you snap a sclose up shot for me of the timing case oil cover port, it should be near the belt tensioner.
You know the cover that fits to one of those 2 different squared timing cover gaskets sold on autohausaz.
I wanna check if I have that cover on my engine.
Thanks bud

I've actually found a spray product in the shops here - 'salt remover' - just for this purpose.
Here's a pic of the small test port on the timing cover.
Yeah I believe I have that testport.
I found out I have the crappy rectangular squared gasket with no centre rubber!
# 112 184 0161, sheize verdamt!

The revised gasket that came on later m113 engines, can it be retrofitted to an early manufactured engine instead of the old style gasket above?
What do mean about this, salt remover detergent on spray cans?
Best thing is not to drive the old rustbucket during winter!
That's winter roads for ya!

Here is a link to the salt eraser product:

If the link doesn't work, just head to the Canadian Tire website and try punching in item number 39-0421-8. Probably they have something similar in Sweden; California, not so much....

daem you're a slopy Joe.
About the test port metal cover, autohaus sells only 1 version of this cover, both version gaskets must fit the metal cover.
The rectangular squared gasket without centre piece rubber can't seal the oil very much?
That's why the reliesed version #2
No MB technician on this forum can chime in on this question?

Gonna try and find some time on the weekend to test fit with the 3mm spacers and both 17" and 18" Monoblocks.
no fresh paint on these used calipers?
needs cleaning n peeling then a fresh paintjob.
let me know how your install went.
also check if your stock or SS braided brakelines are long enuff to fit and mount your new calipers

is it the rear side of the caliper bracket, you need to trim?
stock c43 brakelines are long and good enuff to use on the new calipers?
well I had my Goodridge SS lines installed last year and they were longer than stock brake lines.
The wireloom connected to the cluster for the brakepad wear sensors warning light is it adaptable to the new c32 break pad wear sensors?
Only thing to do is to buy c32 brake pad wear sensors and connect them to the c43 wireloom?
No problems there, huh?

I have no personal experience (yet) about whether the lines will be long enough or the wear sensors will be fine - but - the Swedish dude with the C43T (S500R?) who did the swap told me it would be all good, and I just needed the 3mm spacer to clear everything.

you say it needs some cutting or bending?
about the pad sensors, they are different between both cars, so that means that maybe the wireloom CONNECTED TO THE CLUSTER and the other end connections are different on c32 than
c43?
here is a pic of the c43 sensor
click the pic.

here is the c32 sensor
http://www.partsgeek.com/catalog/200...ad_sensor.html
as you can see both sensors differ IIRC?

It's minus friggin' cold right now, so plans for test fitting the C32 brake components are likely going to be put on hold for a little while. Bleah. I hate winter.
I dunno if it will be possible to use the C32 pad sensor harness. The guy I bought the calipers from said they were installed on a '90s E something, so I guess it's a W124. When they removed the calipers, they just cut the lines and the harness. So while I have the sensor end of the harness, it's been hacked of. I'll have to see what I can do...just need some time to mock things up.
