Just for kicks... C36 Header prototype

Hey guys,

Since enough people have asked about the headers, here's is a sneak peak pic of what our C36s headers would have looked like. Shame there was no demand in the M104 market b/c they are truly amazing to look at. No dynos were actually performed but estimates most likely would have put it around 15HP. Just to show you what can be done when we try

anyways enjoy...

AMAZING. If I had the money I would have been all over this (same goes for many of the other M104 guys I'm sure)

These would have been equal length runners correct?

Would you be willing to share any CAD drawings of the flange?

yes equal length runners, nope won't give out any info on it. It was fun none the less to try. Shame benz doesn't do Inline-6 engines anymore, lot more room to work with than all the V6's & V8s.

Ben, ill try and do somethin like that in the comin months. The flange can be made from any M104 stock manifolds since the ports on our AMG are almost same size, if not exactly same as the 3.2/ 2.8 engines.

its worth tryin it.

Thanks Jay! If I can get a nice representation of the flange I can easily jig some stuff up and put the Lincoln to work . Pictures are amazing btw, I'll get back to you later today!

Thanks anyway AMS, beautiful work though!

No worries , just trying to inspire a few who want to give it a shot but honestly there simply isn't enough demand to justify an entire production run so we dropped it.

FYI, The bekkers headers were junk for the price they were charging, LOTS of design flaws... and the $1800 pricetag was absurd. These were loosely based on them but many difference changes had to be made as they were simply not a good design.

since ur not going to make those, and since demand is low, can we ask u to stop being a good business manand help us out with a few details.

Whats the pipe diameter u would recommend and how long should the runneres be before the join? For a good compromise between low pull and top end.

Keep in mind i live at least 10000 miles away so even if u had those in stock i still have to consider shipping costs over ur asking price.
we understand that the info u have came from ur own time and trials but can we ask u to help since there is no economic profit to u in making the headers.
Thanx any way

I didn't see a proposed price, but I certainly would have been very interested at a decent price and true bolt on at both ends.

Said it before, but if someone was to offer equal length, stainless steel headers for the C36 at a reasonable price, I´ve got the money and would buy them in a heartbeat.

If Jay and Ben (or anyone else for that matter) can get something together, you can bet that a set will make their way under my hood.

Everyone always says "I would have bought" but again rarely does it play out that way in the real world.

The MSRP would have been roughly $800-1000 depending on various factors if anyone was wondering.

equal length headers really are the best way to go and the only benz model you can really do a proper EL header are on the I-6s (mainly the M104).

@ usd 800 it just right on. and thou at this very moment im short on cash to buy it, especially having no true dyno sheet with before and after, since u wont disclose any info or specs abt it. if u still offer it at that price a month or 2 from now i am willing to fork for it.

the project has been scrapped years ago and isn't coming to the market even on small scale. If it had been a few years earlier when C36s were less "forgotten" shall we say ... it may have turned out different.

I wouldn't be surprised if gains were in the order of 12-15HP @ crank, but I wouldn't expect much more then that. If you really wanted to make more power, it may be easier to just do a custom set of long tube headers... THOSE would really make power and would allow you to run a full custom exhaust setup. Those I6s love long tube headers and it would give the C36 engine the flow it needs to make any additional gains from further exhaust enhancements.

Just throwing out some ideas for you guys.

With all the M104's running around, ( I have "just" the stock 3.2L unit) I am surprised you can't get enough folks together to make it worthwhile. $800-$900 would seem about right a limited piece that bolts right up and leaves the cat in place. People spend more than that on wheels!!

C'est la vie.

Jerry

Can't be that difficult for a company currently in business to make a short run of these.

Simply not enough demand. Short run would require higher prices which would then make them not viable for production. People always say "I would buy it" but when it comes down to it, they almost never do.

With that said, you can always run a custom long tube setup (but it won't be cheap at all). Long tubes will net you very good gains but require a full custom exhaust system to go along with it. However with everything done correctly, I don't see why 30+HP shouldn't be easily possible.

I am sure there is the same problem with C43 as with the C36 as there just isn't enough demand....

Hey C36s owners,

If you there is enough demand perhaps a batch of M104 C36 CNC machined billet SS flanges could be machined for those of you wanting to go the custom route and run long tubes or even a set of shorties.

Pricing depends on quantity but most likely it would be under $200 for the set.
