Why did my transmission do this???!!!!

I accelerated pretty fast on the highway from a stand still (nothing like a ¼ mile run but still fast) I hit about 90 mph then the transmission basically shifted its self into neutral. I pressed the gas and it just only reved (as if it was in neutral) WTF?!?! I slowed down the car and I was moving the shifter from d to 4 to 3 and back and still nothing. I started to take an exit and slowed to about 15 mph and then it was back to working. It was accelerating once again. This is now twice it has happened in 2 months. Why? (Car has starmark warranty)

Sounds like your car's tranny might be slipping. I would take the car to the shop and have them look at the following:

1) Tranny fluid
2) Tranny program check
3) Last resort, the tranny itself

Get that looked at quick before it gets worse, or before an accident occurs.

Good luck and be safe,

DLS

PS. Any indicator lights come on?

No indicator lights come on, only the traction control (ESP) light came on before any of this occured, since i did accelerate fast. But it was off for at least 15 seconds before i noticed the issue.

I had the almost the exact same thing happened to my car. Basically the dealer said that the transmission conducting plate (a solenoid) has failed. My car was under warranty and would've costs about $600 (labor included) to repair.

Besides my tranny shifting into neutral at full throttle, it also went to neutral under moderate acceleration and in reverse. Plus the tranny will jerk really hard and fast when downshifting.

My tranny is all fine now.

Hope this helps.
