Good idea doing a refresh while its out!
Don't bother with head gaskets this is far too much work and they don't seem to ever fail under normal use!.
The HB is different on 5.4 from 4.3,but most other parts are same.
Make sure you follow the MB spec sealant bead and paths for the sump otherwise it will leak, or worse clog your oil pickup if you think more is better. I've found best tool by far is MB corking gun and there recommended sealant.
Maybe do the oil cooler seals as these tend to go hard and leak, however they are really expensive.

anyone got a line on how to source these engines lately? ebay used to be a pretty good place, but they're either not there or WAY overpriced. I'm not dropping $3500 on a 15 year old engine with 150k miles.

Can everyone that has done the 55 swap please chime in and put a list on all mandatory and recommended parts/part #'s, that should be replaced before dropping the engine in? The 2002 E55 5.4 that I'm dropping in has 120K Kms. I don't want to miss anything and pay the price for it down the road. Is replacing the head gaskets overkill? I'm definitely replacing the valve cover gaskets, re sealing the breather cover's, timing chain, pulleys and motor mounts. I'd greatly appreciate all the help! Thank you!

my car has less vibrations from these mounts, with your koni/vogtland setup this will be a great combo

is there any difference between C43 harmonic balancer and E55 harmonic balancer?
if there is any difference between them both, is it because E55 needs a heavier HB from bigger displacement?
what's the partsnumber for E55 HB?
last updated manufactured part?
what's the partsnumber for right side water outlet connector?

Hello Dennis,
HB is different part number on 5.4, It will have different frequency dampening.
Sorry I do not have the part number on me,but I can get it for you tonight.
When I searched for aftermarket I could not find any I had to get Genuine MB

hi guys, thanks for your help finding me those partsnumbers.
it's good to have them all written down when they are needed some day?
I wonder if intake manifold gaskets go bad?
are they made of metal sheet or paper/rubber?
do exhaust gaskets go bad as they are made of metal?
has anyone of you ever replaced the ventilation crankcase filter, is it touched on service at all?
my old Volvo had a small round plastic strainer full with holes for ventilation crankase filter.
is it the same type of filter for M113 engine?
partsnumber for this filter?
is this the partsnumber A13641286708 for fuel-injector rubber O-rings?
is it 16x O-rings for 8 injectors?
what kind of hose should be needed for extra water outlet, IIRC there was a hose from a E300 Diesel perfect fitting?
what's the partsnumber for this hose?
thanks for your help guys

Harmonic balancer should be different between C43 & E55, during to differ crankshaft displacement..!
*C43 Harmonic balancer #: "112 035 14 00", & crankshaft #: "113 030 10 01"
*E55 Harmonic balancer #: "113 030 00 03" & crankshaft #: "113 030 09 01"
(4.2l vs 5.4l)

There is a local shop with a mandrel machine that can fabricate headers. Does anyone know a rough estimate on how much a set of fabricated headers would cost? Thx

C43 balancer cost around ($250), while E55 balancer around ($300),,
is there any problem with your balancer..?

This balancer is soo sensitive, prefer the OEM only, cause it's the heart of the Engine/crank mass Rotation,
this balancer should be differ upon to differ based of displacement,,
many horror stories of aftermarket balancers, i know some fellows who changed the hole Engine because of aftermarket balancer failure..![nix](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/nixweiss.gif)

i need a memory refreshment update?
5.4L engines manufactured up to MY2000-05 use ME2.0/EGS51 which are plug and play on 1998 - 1999 C43 cars?
Is this correct?
engines up to MY2000-05 share the same engine harness - throttlebody - fuel injectors which are plug n play on 1998 - 1999 C43's?
Is this correct?
5.4L engines manufactured after 2000-07 are registered as MY2001 has ME2.8/EGS52 which is not compatible with 1998 - 1999 C43's?
These engines have a different TB - different engine harness - updated fuel injectors?
Is this correct?
the easiest modification would be to buy an engine up to MY2000-06 which has to be plug and play?
I have to write down every important info not to fogget about this.
Please enlighten me if I'm correct with all above info?
