to be fair, there are only 2 ferrous fittings on the whole engine: the EGR pipe nut and the diaphragm arm. everything else looked super clean! plus, the pistons are aluminum and the cylinder walls are silicon, so there's chemically no way there can be rust in there. but when I pull the plugs I'll know for sure if they need any blasting before we fire it up!

did any of you C55 converts notice any difference in gauge temperatures?
my C43 with stock 4,3L engine reads 90 degrees Celsius in oil temperature after a spirited driving session.
I have 3x VDO 52mm gauges installed in my car where the a$$tray was fitted before, the oil temp gauge reads 90 degrees european Celsius when engine is fully warmed.
my question to you c55 converts, did you check if you still get the same readings with the new E55 motor fitted as with the 4,3L engine coz you are still using the C43 ECU which gives the wrong data to E55 engine?
here you can see the exact readings from my VDO gauge 90 degrees Celsius

P.S. Nice idea using the ashtray area for mounting extra gauges. Any pics and what are you measuring apart from engine oil temp??
P.P.S. 90°c is a "coolish" temp specially after a spirited drive. It is more typical of a normal oil operating temp. I would monitor and worry of oil temps reaching 130°c and above. 90°c is cooler than your water temp after a spirited drive I imagine.

i have an oil sender unit screwed into the oil pan where the bolt for draining oil is located.
my mechanic swapped bolt for oil temp sender as a plug.
see link
http://www.ebay.de/itm/VDO-Temperatu...sAAOSwwPhWlfUw
engine temperatures running between 80-90 degrees Celsius is it considered OK and normal operating temperature when engine oil is fully warmed up after a long drive?
you have seen these pictures b4 with my VDO gauges.

Cool update. Instead of voltage gauge, I would choose to have the ATF temperature. Oil pressure is a nice idea. This could be my next project update.
BTW your 80-90°c looks perfectly normal to me even if perhaps on the coolish side considering this is after a long drive.
How much is oil temp after the water reaches operating temp of 80-90°c?

when the cooling water is up to work temp after a hard drive, my VDO gauge reads 80 to 85 degrees Celsius all the time!
is it healthy or not with oil temps of 80-85 Celsius after a hard drive?
I have a brand new BEHR MB radiator fitted on my car, I guess the new radiator will keep the engine heat and oil temp heat much cooler instead of using my old rad?
bought my VDO gauges from this shop
http://www.slspeed.de//de/VDO-Instru...b9h9ttktmoq7c3
found this VDO AFR gauge from down under on eBay
it only comes in black

The idea of having oil temps around 100°c or above is healthy as it will dry out all the humidity in the oil and surrounding environment.

Going by the gauge on the dash, my car almost never went over 90C. It almost always hovered around 80C, except sitting in traffic in the summer with full-blast air conditioning going, it could slowly creep up to 90C. Cooling system on these engines is great, plus I think being aluminum helps a lot too. M104's run notoriously hot and are made of thick, heavy iron.

Shop called, my car is done! waiting to go pick it up today. I'm so freaking excited!!!
would start a thread and post some pics the shop sent me along the way, but don't want to bore people with yet another pointless thread.
now the question of the day: keep the 43 badge and troll people? or switch to 55?

Yeah, thats a slick idea, but I'm just so proud to have a real, bonafide AMG and would advertise it forever. C43 is still my all time favorite car.

Anyone have any idea on the new numbers for a C55 after the swap? The w210 E55 pulled a 0 to 60 time of 5.2. Logic dictates that the w202 with the same motor would be even faster, but I simply can't believe that adding like 44 hp and 90 ft lbs of torque can shave almost a whole second off our zero to sixy times??

picked the car up today. holy crap, that low-end torque is just nuts!
coasting at 40mph, third gear is still enough to just fly away! it just pulls and pulls.
but when I gear down to 2nd at 40mph, it can't hook up! tires are brand new falken ZE950's and on dry flat roads it still triggers the ESP to hit the brakes
the biggest difference is the low and mid range power, but you can definitely feel it reach a flat spot towards the top end. anyone else notice this? maybe that's the w202 restrictive exhaust kicking in?

I wouldn't be too worried if the temp is slightly higher than with the 43. MB engines are built to run at higher temps than other makes. Also it is important to check that you expansion tank tap holds the pressure, as this is the key to running safe higher temps. Mine runs close to or just over 90°c at all times, with 95°-97°c after a hard run or in high temps. Check the temp readings in the pic below on a pretty hot day last summer...
