Some more noob questions

I searched everywhere on this forum including the tech area, but couldn't find this most basic info, so forgive me for asking redundant questions.

What is the lug bolt pattern of MBs, specfically W202s? Is it 5x112, x114.3, x120? Anyone know what it is for BMW (interchangeable w/ MB)? Lol, yes, I know I own one, but I'm having a bit of a brain freeze here. Also, what are the width and off-set of the stock staggered 17" AMG Monoblocks? Thanks.

The lug bolt pattern is 5x112mm.
Staggered 17" AMG's are:
Front
7.5" width and ET of either 35 or 37
Back
8.5" width and ET of either 30 or 34

Most BMWs run 5x120 from my understanding. A lot of Japanese marques use 5x114.3 bolt pattern.

A lot of VW/Audis are 5x112 as well, that's why there are so many dub guys running Benz wheels on their cars. Check the 5x112 wheel classified forum on vwvortex for another source of used wheels.

I've heard of guys running 5x114.3 wheels on 5x112 hubs without redrilling, by using 'wobble bolts'. Not too keen on that idea. If one were desperate, I think redrilling would be safer - of course, using wheels properly made in the right pattern is best!

I agree that safety comes first . Don't try adapting wheels to a different pattern

I was thinking of re-drilling JDM-fitment (5x114.3) wheels to fit MB application (5x112). I found a wheel shop that has some pretty rare JDM BBS and other unique wheels that offers re-drilling services for $140 per set. They say that after re-drilling, they insert new thread sleeves that ensure a tight fit and prevent any shimmy or loose-ness. You guys think this is safe?

I really want a staggered set of 18" BBS GTs for my future C36/43!!!

Also, on a slightly different topic, what is the proper calculation method for off-sets when it comes to spacers? For example, if an 18x8 wheel has an off-set of 48mm, then if I fit a 17mm spacer, will that ensure the same fit as an 18x8 w/ 31mm off-set? Or it the other way around, with a resulting 65mm off-set?

rbwheels.com by chance the shop you are talking about? I'd love to grab a set of BBS LMs. They have a good selection of LMs, easier to find than 5x112 LMs.

Generally speaking, you can lower offset, but you can't really increase it, as increasing it would mean machining off the wheel mounting surface. Well, I guess you could increase offset, but machining off the wheel probably isn't a good idea. When you add a spacer, you will bring the offset down because you are decreasing the distance between the mounting surface and the wheel centreline.

Here's an article on offset:
http://www.1010tires.com/tech.asp?type=wheels

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but what I said above refers to negative offset, not positive. If you put a 17mm spacer on a 48mm offset wheel, the resulting offset would be 31mm. But I don't think 17mm is a common spacer size, more usually they have nice round numbers and in 5mm increments, although I think H&R does make some in 3mm and 7mm. I don't think you can 'stack' spacers, so typically you get yourself in that range and hope the 2-3mm difference won't be noticed by your fender and suspension!

Yes, RBwheels...but I believe they are now called VRMotoring? And I just read some bad reviews about the quality of their used wheels. I may not get wheels from them after all...

And thanks for that off-set link, helped a lot in determining size of spacer I would need!
