Garage opener
Do any of you guys use your factory garage opener feature (built into the driver's sun visor)? I believe other OEMs call this Homelink. Anyway, I tried programming mine following the owner's manual instructions, but it doesn't seem to work (although all the lights flash per the owner's manual description?). Any ideas?

I just actually retrofitted a auto dimming rearview with homelink to the C36. I tried the same exact thing you did to see if I can program it to my garage opener. No dice? I hope we are just doing something wrong because this would be a neat feature to have.

The home link in W210 took about six tries to set up and I think its the same steps. Do I search in the W210 section and they will give you step by step. You have to clear out all the old codes first and I don't think the guide tells you to do this, thinking your the first owner... If you don't clear them and its been set up before it wont work or at least for me it wouldn't. Good luck!

this option regarding homelink was it only a yankeeeeeeeee option for US market?
can it be retrofitted?
We all have auto dimmable RVM, is it run by power?
So if retrofitting homelink do I need to run any extra power wireloom for this option?

Also, regarding the programming steps, my owner's manual actually does instruct to clear out the codes, which I did, but to no avail...

To clarify, on my C36, the garage opener (homelink) feature is built into the driver's sun visor (3 buttons), not the rearview mirror.

Turn on your car
Press and hold 1 of the buttons on your visor, try the right most button towards the passenger side.
Keep holding it, it'll blink really fast, keep holding it until the blinking slows down
let go of the button once it slows down and right away press the door open button on your remote,
it should sync

The one installed on the C36 is old technology and does not support newer garage door openers that uses rolling codes. I believe the rolling code technology was installed on model 2000+ year Mercedes Benz. But I could be mistaken.

Man I wonder what gives? Maybe it is too old? My W210 was a 2001 so that maybe why it worked so ez... I didn't have the car one but the key in second position I think.... I wish you luck sir.
I use it everyday, i try to set it up by the way it says in the manual but it never worked, but my girlfriend somehow figured it out. You need a garage door opener remote that is already synced with the garage door.

It's either you have an old garage door opener that does not have a rolling code technology built into it or a newer (MY 2000 or up) Mercedes Benz.

I don't have it in my European C43 either. So it could be a North American option thing only.
Saw a thread somewhere not too long ago explaining the working of the buttons. I'll see if I can find it....

I retrofitted a 1999 C280 rear-view mirror into my 95' C36, it literally pops right in. I'm sure many others would as well, I'll check some part numbers.
All you need to do is source ground and 12VDC from the sunroof button junction for the autodimming feature. I'll have to try the new "blinking" method and see if my garage obeys!

I have the autodimming feature on my RVM, if I find an US autodimming RVM and swap it with the button version RVM, do I need to connect any extra wires to my car to power the buttons?

Not at all, just needs two wires and everything runs off of that. If you get an auto dimming mirror that supports folding side-view mirrors or dimming side-view mirrors there are more wires obviously but you still only need ground and 12VDC for the dimming and homelink features.

Holy Cow, an option on North American cars that European cars didn't have?!?
I have the homelink on my rear view mirror. Works fine with my old clunker garage door openers.

In US you have that sexy metal cd bracket with the carpet lid in the trunk.
This bracket was offered with Böse HIFI?
This option was never offerd in Europe!
Well I have this bracket,
so I'm special I suppose?
2gether with US turnsignal lights makes my C-fou3 a european/american bastar-.

I'll have to try mine again I guess...after 10 or so attempts, I gave up. I used the one in my M3 all the time, need this thing to start working!
