Rattle from muffler: SOLVED!!!

I had posted a little while ago that I thought I had a piece of my cat stuck in my muffler rattling around. When I come to a complete stop or when I go over a bump I can hear it. This problem started soon after I had my secondary cats removed. I got fed up with the sound and decided to crawl under the car and see if there was another possibility to where the sound was coming from. At first I thought maybe the muffler was rubbing against the heat shield but that was not the case. After poking around for a minute I realized that the muffler hanger was rubbing against the frame. I put 2 and 2 together and have finally determined the root cause...

When I got my secondaries removed they welded in straight pipe to replace the cats, they obviously welded in pieces that were a little longer than the cats which pushed the muffler back a little and caused the muffler hanger to rub against the frame. This explains why the problem started right after I had the secondaries removed. Looks like I will be taking a trip out to my exhaust guy to have the pipes shortened a little bit....

these Macgyver mods are not good for your car!
there are sideeffects you know, you'll have bad X-p3rianc3 from that!

pipe dudes when they were welding the straight pipes, did you check if your rustprotection coating was burned off at the same places afterwards?
did they unhook the battery before welding?

does your car go faster and is it stronger now with more ponies?

You're lucky as my rattle is definitely coming from inside the ported tips. I took the muffler off and you can shake it around and here it jingle, but for the life of me I can't get it to come out.

I don't think you could call removing the secondaries and welding in straight pipes a Macgyver mod... There is a little more power not really noticeable but it really changed the sound

Yeah I had to break down and buy an eisenmann race, there was no way I was going to pay $2400 at the dealers for a new AMG muffler. That and it was a little too quite for my tastes. Waiting until the spring to have it installed as well as some new 200 cell cats, should sound beastly.

How much for the eisenmann. I was in the same mindset and upgrade a little

It was a $1000 and it is for the c43, so you have to get a new pipe made from the resonator back to the muffler. The muffler is basically the same shape as the AMG one but the inlet is in a slightly different place.

You can

get Magna flows with dual outlets in the same size as oem for far less than eisen's and in stainless steel.
200 cell cats won't yield much more than 4hp save the money and change your transmission fluid or somethin

Except that I'm pretty sure the rattle in my muffler came from my cats so putting another muffler with ported tips on will just be asking for the same thing to happen again. Need to change out the cats so you might as well get high flowing ones. IMHO magnaflow are crap compared to the eisenmann and don't sound very good at all. I had one on for a week on my e30 BMW and it was the biggest piece of ****; droned like hell and really didn't muffle at all.

Yeah it is on my list of things to do; except you'll have to wait until the spring as the car is hibernating for the winter.

Wow $1000 on a muffler and you didn't install it the day you got it. You have much more patience than I do...

Yeah I hear you, most of my funds and time have gone into my e30 lately. Spring time is going to be dedicated to the AMG; not that it needs much really, new springs, shocks, and the exhaust work.

Where did you pick up the exhaust?...if you don't mind me asking..Did you have to wait an extended period of time to have it made or was it readily available?

I've recently (last week) gotten some misguided information from Eisenmann US distributers saying that Eisenmann didn't make an actual C43 exhaust due to AMG's stips but did make it for the standard W202's... I then asked if the standard 202 application would work/fit with the C43 and then said no... WTF!?! Really confused now as the plate on yours clearly states C43.. might have to send them a picture of yours and tell them to pull their head out!

I bought the muffler last spring from a company out of California, but for the life of me I can't remember what it was called. It was in stock, but it was the last one they had. I'll try and go through me receipts and find the name for you.

i really wanna know what the best sounding exhaust is for a c36 i gues a supersprint resonator and a supersprint back box will be very nice? or will the supersprint resonator sound nicely with an eisenmann backbox?

ps i,m only 16 and i still have to wait 2 more years(europ) for buying my own c36. i have worked for years for being able to buy a mercedes c36 in good condition, so i want the best for my car

That's what I was thinking..didn't make sense that they wouldn't have an application for the 43...other than the whole agreement with AMG and Eisenmann..but still! Hopefully Ogden can find out or remember where he got his from in CA.

So I went through all the records I had but cannot seem to locate it. Sorry, I guess you'll just have to start calling all of the known dealers and hope someone has one in stock. Failing that you could call eisenmann in Germany to see what is up. Here is a link to the dealers in the US:
http://www.ind-distribution.com/ezbo...oot&BID=dealer
After some more searching I found this:
http://www.rimier.com/eshop/item.php?item=2617&cat=

Sweet man, thank you! I've looked at both of those sites and just emailed Rimier to see if they have anything in stock. I'm going to check all the West Coast dealers to see if they have anything as well and do price/availability comparisons too.

Cheers -

Was finally able to get the C43 Eisenmann system sorted out...after emailing ALL of the west coast distributors (including the US distributor for Eisenmann, iND), I was told there was no such system available from them..bottom line! The whole thing with Eisenmann manufacturing all of AMG's exhaust systems anyway and them not fabbing up another "aftermarket kit" due to their contract and agreement, I was S.O.L. They said I would have to custom fab off one of their other systems but they couldn't tell me which one. After several emails conversations with Nate @ iND and Mike @ Rimier (very helpful guys BTW) we were finally able to get down to the nitty gritty and figure it out. Much thanks to Ogden for the posted pictures, helped us out greatly! At first I wasn't sure you had a legit kit after them telling me all this and hearing the same story from several other vendors as well, but I did get confirmation from Nate @ iND that it is real, and they DO make the system. However, it is a "special" order from them as the system is no longer on thier catalogue and it's not the standard W202 order. Keep in mind that it is the same RACE system sold for the W202 order, they just make it with a custom inlet pipe.

I guess I'll be grabbing this soon enough and undergo the 4-6 week wait.

For anyone with a C43 that it interested in possibly getting one of these soon, I would HIGHLY recommend going through Mike at Rimier as he and Nate are now familiar with what to order from Germany. (Mike obviously has to go through iND like anyone else ordering it in the states - it'll save you a bunch of hassle as they'll probably never forget that Eisenmann can make an actual system for our 43's. haha) Plus, Mike gave me the best deal out of anyone...including iND!!!

probably leave the primaries alone and remove the secondaries and resonator.

I haven't heard what the system sounds like on an actual C43 yet, very interested to know! I'm hoping the supercharger will only add a little more groan along with the V8!..and hopefully I'll be able to get a little more HP out of the setup as well.

I know shops don't typically remove cats in the US, but if there aren't O2 sensors there and if the primaries are still installed, do they care so much? Have any of you guys had issues getting them removed?
