Why does my front drivers side wheel?

Creak like a F-ing old boat? It only happens when I drive over uneven ground and all the other wheels sound fine but just this wheel sounds so creaky... I got under the car this past weekend to look for it and all the bushings looked the same on both sides... Its starting to drive me freaking nuts. Its also made the same sound while I was jacking the rear end up to remove my wheel spacers. Sounds like metal on metal... Any ideas???

I understand what you mean..... and its driving you crazy In my opinion it could be several possibilities: faulty spring pad, faulty spring holder (top side) about to shear, bushings needing some lubricant (try spraying some silicon inside), sway bar bushing.... suspension or steering ball joint (knuckle), etc. In any case, its not normal and needs some looking into pronto.

I think I might have a similar sound but it is from my rear drivers side wheel. Is it kind of like a metal pinging/popping noise?? I hear it when I get out of my car, like the spring is decompressing or something...

I had a nasty creaking noise on larger bumps or major compressions in the road, left front wheel area too. I thought I was rubbing the fenders, but it wasn't - I looked and looked. The noise disappeared after my new KMac lower control arm bushings were in and properly torqued.

Yeah I'm going to oil everything this weekend and see if it goes away. Weird thing is- when its cold out side its gone! Wtf?! Ha my car is just plain moody I think. It still drives very tight so I'm sure its not harmful, just sounds really cheap and is driving me freaking nuts! I think my # 1 front pad went bad... It would make since why I can't see it and only here over uneven ground, or so I think.

Hmmm...I personally see it kind of difficult for a spring pad to go bad. It's a solid piece of rubber. I suppose it could wear right through, but that would probably be indicative of something else seriously wrong. I'd check your rear lower control arm bushings. It's tough to check them when they are installed, but you should try anyway.

I never said you are a fool, you Fooley
how can your springs still creek when you get out of your car?
the metallic noize comes from the exhaust after you have been driving your car so the heat tinkers inside the tubes.

if this is not the noize you're talking about then you've might got a zerious problem with your car.
on wehicle inspections, older MB's like w124 had broken front springs without telling you they are broken, only way to see this is by vehicle inspections or servicing the car

I had a similar noise on my M3, but not from a wheel, instead from a factory cross-brace that was slightly loose. And yes, it only happened when the car was warmed up...heat expands metal and thus reduces clearances, hence the noise, etc. Bust out a can of silicone lubricant and go to town!!

i get a weird "pop" sound as well when i make sharp turns. no one has ever been able to find the source, although it is obviously from the suspension moving around ...

also, majorly squeaky rear seat area that i can't diagnose! sorry, , but i just had to throw that in there!

Squeaky thread

Concerning you rear seat, check and lubricate the seat latches. They seem to move slightly so have tendency to squeak easy

do you get squeky sound on sharp turns?
power steering is operating!
for instance you get out from a tight parking lot.
you need to max the steering to the right or left to get out, power steering is making noise it's normal.
it does that to either right or left side when turning steering to the max end.

mechanics use vaseline to grease the ends of the leather where they rub on each other to kill the noise, I mean endings of the folding part

it's not the exhaust I can assure you. I just had my car FULLY inspected by MB and they said nothing. When I install my suspension after the holidays I'll take a look...

Regarding the OP's question, have you checked the steering gear bolts? It takes 10 minutes and should be done every 50K or 4 years, whichever comes first. Use a torque wrench or you may be sorry.

I wish I could just fly you here to look over my car and tell me what the hell to fix and how to do it! So if this was the issue, would it explain why when the car it parked and I turn the wheel left to right quickly I hear a slight clunk noise??? Is there a DIY for our cars and do you happen to know the torque specs?

If the bolts are loose, and you turn left/right quickly, it may make a clunking noise as the steering box moves. The location of the bolts and their torque specs are listed here. (the W208 and W202 have the same spec) You don't need to fly me out, when you get to Manhattan Beach, just attend a Los Angeles Mercedes-Benz Club of America event. There is a Show and Shine next month (free), ehe 5th Annual Southwestern Regional Event at Borrego Springs Resort and Spa in March, and a Rallye in April. The events are at the website and on Facebook.

OK, that's enough plugs for MBCA in one post. I'll save the part about getting you a free copy of the magazine until later.
