Tools needed for C43 front brakes pad change
Hi guys,
Great forum!
I want to change the front brake pads on my 2000 C43 and I was hoping to get some advice about what tools I need.
To remove the calipers do I need an alen wrench? or just me regular socket?
I have basic tools, but I need some jack stands and a c-clamp or brake spreader.

I haven't done my brakes yet (and actually I don't think I will ever, I've got a set of C32 calipers on the way), but you should be good with the tools you've listed. Other than their size, and the construction of the front discs, there really isn't anything remarkable about the brakes to the best of my knowledge.
I know a lot of instruction manuals typically tell you to remove the sliding part of the caliper and replace the pads that way, but I typically just remove the whole caliper, press the piston(s) back, and put the new pads into the caliper. if you don't have a pad spreader tool, you can use two wrenches with their box ends together to gently pry and move the pistons back.
If you PM me your email address, on Monday I can send you a scan of the factory instructions for pad installation.

the front calipers are pretty simular to a rear drive gm, pretty simple, I would research what wrench size it is just to make sure you have seems it was an odd size

Use the
paste.
get the torx bit.
Follow the diy
http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w210...-pictures.html
it will vary a bit by model but if you have done brakes or use your noodle will not pose a problem.
Use a large C-clamp to press the caliper piston flush.
Work safe, chock the wheels, use jack stands, don't use the crap mb jack to lift the car. Get a good floor jack.
Only do one sise at a time(leaves yourself a way to compare if you get confusticated)
Torque your rims progressively in a star pattern to 80ft lb
Bed the new pads in per the pad makers guide.
You can omit the opening of the bleed screw by opening the brake res and remove a bit of brake fluid(with a sacrificial turkey baster) as you retract the piston so as not to let it overflow.
Do it after each side and when brakes are done start car depress pedal a few times shut it off and check fluid level fill to max line as needed with fresh dot4 fluid and replace the cap.
Have fun.

Hey guys,
Thanks a lot!
This is going to be a huge help.
I have been wanting to do this for over a year so I'm glad I'm going for it.
I just ordered my Akebono pads, so as they should be here during the week and next weekend it's on.

Very nice DIY and the full size pictures are TOP not forgetting that the AMG rotors look great also (two piece).

The only thing that seemed odd to me when doing the brakes on mine was that the bleeder screws were different sizes between the front and rear. If you are only sticking to the front, you probably won't notice that. If you do decide to bleed your brakes, you will need wrenches under 10 mm.

Thank MarcusF - he gave me a copy of the WIS last year. It's been invaluable in all of my work on the car since. Heh, I've even helped out my mechanic buddy, who needed some instructions for working on his boss' SL55.
