who has fuel guage wonkiness? (raise your hand!)
I do, but it's not as bad as it once was.
The wonkiness = the fuel gauge seemingly having a mind of its own (especially after fill up) showing empty when full, even showing the fuel level low warning light. But the wonkiness seems to disappear after 1/3 to 1/2 tank.
Replacement parts run about $200-300 if I remember right, that's for the two level senders that go inside the tank, accessible from underneath the car. I understand it's due to some degradation on the senders, from stuff in the fuel.
My car had the wonkiness consistently. However, the past few months I've noticed the wonkiness has decreased substantially. Now it only happens once in a while, not consistently after every fill up. I hope and pray I have not buggered something up in my car's 'carma' by posting this post.
I am surmising, entirely speculatively, that fuel quality and perhaps source may be the different. I'm thinking that the previous owner may have used a different grade of fuel, or a different gas station (no evidence to back this up though). I consistently fill up at Esso and almost nowhere else (due to customer loyalty program) and always use premium.

mine likes to hover around 3/4's tank sometimes. After fillup and when it's below 60 degrees outside.
Lately it's been fine tho. It seems to have worked itself out.

My fuel gauge stayed on "E" one time when I started the car, it stayed there for about 1 minute then it went right back to displaying the right amount of fuel. That is the only time I have had an issue with the fuel gauge.
I've had the same wonkiness with mine in the 5+ years I've owned it. It will go for long periods of time when it works fine, then have a spell with sticking at empty when it's full, or sticking at full for too long before dropping to about 3/4 or so. So far, it's not enough of a problem to warrant spending the money to get it fixed.
the fjul line sender does it only get funky on high mileage cars?
In Sweden a few years ago.
BMW X5 jeeps had problems with a certain type of fuel from a certain gascompany.
Sensors got clogged and then broke, cars were recalled and had new and improved fuel line senders installed!
The sensor had a weak type of alloy that corroded from gas and messed up all cars gas gauges.
is it the same shyyyyyyyyyt with our C43's?
