Kuhmo MX 255/40/17 in the rear. And Pirrelli P-Zero Nero 235/40/17 in the front.

Wheels are SSR Comps, 8.5x17 frt, 9.5x17 rear.

J Irwin tell me about your Nero's?

mixing front and rear tires

I have Dunlop SP9000 for my tires now, but my two rear tires are getting worn out. So I'm thinking of replacing the rear tires. Is it a bad idea to replace my rear tires with something else other than SP9000? I'm thinking of getting the Kummo MX as well since the price is good and I've heard good comments. Or am I better off getting a new set of SP9000?

Also, what do you think of increasing the rear tire size from 245 to 255?

Thanks,
Baron

With the stock 8.5" wide rear rim I would stick with the 245/40/17 tire. The Kuhmo MX's are very good tires. More grip than Dunlop SP9000, with a stiffer construction so they don't flex on the sidewall as much.

Thanks speedy benz, I will stick to 245 in the rear since I have stock wheels. Do you think there are any issues if I have SP9000 in the front and the Kummos in the back? How is the threadlife of the Kummos.

Thanks,
Baron

Baron,

No problem running the SP9000 dunlop with the Kuhmo MX in the back.

The Dunlop's will Howl and understeer when really pushed hard, but thats OK as the Kuhmo's will stick just fine and understeer is easy to control. Just roll back on the throttle a little.

We had Pilot MXX3's on back, and S03's on front, but the S03's were horrible. Well, they were great, but they tracked on the slightest road imperfection. Here in the PNW, the roads aren't the best, so we had to switch the fronts to MXX3's, too. They are GREAT! I think they are rated the best performace tire on the market... Michellin Pilot MXX3.

J Irwin tell me about your Nero's?

Jeff

Jeff I see you got some Nero too..

yeah baby...

Nero is great, very quite and comfy and on top of top it feel sticky on the road..

I have the XL (Extra load configuration on both front and rear)...

Read the test review on www.tirerack.com Michelin Pilot Sport vs S 03 vs P-Zero Nero..

Nero seem to have a bit more edge compare those 2..

My brother have S-03 on his M3, they are great tires, exceptional wet handling and traction as well...

On the otherhand MXXX3 is old technology, while it has a superb dry handling/traction (no doubt it) it actually suck big time on wet road... (I don't think it even have a proper traction when the road get slightly wet )

if u get the production film off first

the s-03 were so much better than the s-01 expedia that came with the car...much sticker, less hydro planing.. however, it is not as comfortable as the s-01. (s-03 > s-02 > pzero for overall performance btw on my wagon)

i have toyo t1-s on my 18" rims on my rx7, and i love em. very sticky and very very quiet and comfortable.

i have also driven on pirelli p-zero rosso's, which were very sticky and nice, but they wore out so damn fast that i couldnt enjoy paying for them...

my dad had michelon pilot sports on his old porsche, and while they are nice tires, i wasnt impressed with them when comparing them to the tires on my mazda.

i used to have potenza re730's on my 17"s on the rx7, which were decent for a "middle priced" tire, but i would never go back to them after running a premium tire. no offense, but i dont think any of you guys running kumho's have ever really owned a premium tire and felt how much of a difference it makes. i used to say the same things, "i would never pay a grand for tires!!! my re730's are just fine!" but after driving on them, you really enjoy the car that much better. dont buy a set of nice tires unless you are ready to buy more when those wear out.

my next tire planned is definitely s-02 or s-03, based on the good things i have heard about them. after that, i think i will be able to make a fair decision on what the best tire will be to buy next.

based on what i have driven on so far, i vote for the toyo t1-s

Gotta tell ya....hate to repeat it but the Toyos are very impressive. Took my rocket for a blast through the North Georgia foothills this weekend to get a better feel for the tire and break them in a tad. This tire has completely altered the handling and ride quality of my car....absolutely thrilled with the performance of this tire thus far (it's equally impressive in the wet stuff too). I had Dunlop 9000s on the car before taking the leap to Toyo and loved the Dunlops but the new Toyos aren't even in the same class................

Hi guys, my first post here, although have been a window shopper for a while!

i was running sp 9000`s, but found they wore too quickly as they were a very soft compound, i now have michilin pilots in the front which are ok but scream on hard turns and continentals on the rear which are excellent too!

many more posts to come !
