If I could only have one of those three, I would pick the R8 myself.

I like the R8's mid engine layout, and a manual transmission with open gates just screams cool and drive focused.

A 911 Turbo is quick no doubt, but my ultimate 911 is a GT3 RS. Or rather, the RS 4.0 which was just released. I aspire to GT3 ownership, but maybe one day I'll grab a 997 C2S and call it a day.

Don't get me wrong, the SLS is very very cool as well, and I wouldn't turn one down. But the gearbox is not supposed to be as intuitive as you'd like, whereas the R8 is very much a driver's tool.

That said, out of all of those, the SLS probably sounds the best.

I will admit the shift gate on the R8 is HOT!!!

I would also go with the R8, even with the V8. The fact that this is the V10 model makes it even easier.

I might revise my 997 C2S plan if R8s depreciates enough. The V8 in that car is a gem too. Some portions of the British motoring press (evo magazine) almost prefer the V8 to the V10 for the balance.

The only thing I don't like about the R8 are those factory wheels. Answer = BBS LMs.

Speaking of wheels, saw a B Class in the parking lot at work wearing what looked like C63 wheels! Bit of poke going on there...looked odd.

Whoever wins a car and driver test is the company that spent the most on advertising that month!

Having some experience in this area, I disagree. I may not be able to call something a heap of crap (even if it is), but I also wouldn't have to do a 180 and say a 911 is better than an R8. This is regardless as to anyone's advertising budget.

That shows bias right there.

Actually, I'm not picking the 911. What I wrote was "I also wouldn't have to do a 180 and say a 911 is better than an R8" - My personal preference is the R8. I'd have to "do a 180" to take the 911. I live in So Cal. the 911 turbo and turbo S are almost common down here. But the R8 5.2, THAT is special. If they had an SLS roadster in the test, I would have chosen that. The speedster style roof is WOW. Given a choice of any car on the planet (and assuming I wasn't on the hook for maintenance), it would be another Audi product; The Lambo Aventador. That said, I am biased. I like what I think is best. I think we all do.

The reason the Porsche training facility is in my sig is because I used to be both a P-car wrench and an owner. I was up at the training facility for a visit, and the photo came out well. I'm old school. I like the air coolers. 964s in particular. With a knife edged 993 crank in particular.

Well, after having been a proud owner of a 968 CS and 964 RS and raced regularly both in the Swiss P Championsip, my heart is very much P oriented as you can imagine However, if I had the chance of choosing among the models mentioned by the OP, I would probably swing for the R8. Now, if the choice also included a GT2 RS guess you know what I would choose

Sounds like you've had it all. The 964 RS . . . . . . we could only dream of those in the states. And if it was the RS 3.8 . . . . oh man. For the 968, I used to read about the Turbo-S. We never got those stateside either. Maybe Canada, I don't know. With all the Porsches sold in the US, you'd think we'd get some of the specialty stuff. Unfortunately, smog laws and crash testing eliminates us from consideration.
