Renntech for the C43
I emailed Renntech to see what they still had available for the C43, here is the email I received:
"Air box is $1895 plus core, it usually takes about a week to make, ECU and air box is $2995.
Bob"
plus core??? Are they going to take my air box and wrap it??
$3k for an air box and ECU

Your talking about a used 4 year old car that sells for significantly more than a NEW C63, I could easily justify dropping $14k as I would imagine the after market parts for a BS are pretty limited but spending $8k on some C63 headers when you can swoop up some MBH or equivalent for $2500 makes ZERO sense unless you have money to BURN and/or you just want the Kleemann badge

People with alot of money to burn.
Spending 14K on a CLK black series exhaust is beyond idiotic.
One of the most high end exhaust system for the 63's is the Akrapovic Evolution exhaust which is 100% Titanium and it costs around 6k.

again we are talking about a car (CLK63 BS) with production numbers of lesss than 1/3 of the C63. I believe there were like 349 BS's made as opposed to the 1500+ C63's. Clearly you are going to have to spend an ungodly amount to purchase them as they must be in limited production (no more than 349 will be made as you aren't going to put 2 sets of headers on your BS right??) as well as the ridiculous amount of R&D that must of gone into them as I can only imagine AMG took their time on deisgining every aspet of the BS so to make an exhaust that trumps theirs AND be worth the $$$$ was probably pretty costly.
CLKBS vs C63 = apples to oranges.... Even if you are comparing the top of the line C63 exhaust ("Akrapovic Evolution exhaust which is 100% Titanium and it costs around 6k") to the bottom of the line exhaust for the BS there is no comparison, 2 different animals.

All the LTH's I have seen for the M156 platforms have the exact same price (E63,CLK63,C63 etc...)
Unless that $14,000 exhuast is made entirely out of titanium I really don't see why someone would pay that much for the CLK63 exhaust.
My assumption is that the exhaust is made out of 3" 304SS, (tig welded of course) which still doesn't justify the 14K price tag.
Now if you want to talk about the SLR exhaust system, that is a whole different ball game. The McLaren has trumped the CLK63 in terms of production numbers and has a very high priced exhaust system when compared to the Black Series.
Bottom line is, just because they made a limited number of CLK63's does not mean a pricier exhaust system.

Well Comparing the CLK63 and C63 is not really apples to oranges in terms of engine performance, Besides the C63 being detuned, they both have the exact same M156 V8 engine.

If the exhaust system is the same between the C63 and the CLK63 BS then the cost of R&D as well as manufacturing could be spread between the vehicles as both would be able to utilize the same system and they could be sold to both the C63 owners as well as the CLK63 BS owners but if the CLK63 BS has a unique exhaust system then the cost would be spread over the total run for that vehicle (500 vehicles).
Lets say it cost the same to design both exhaust systems, I'll put out a random number for the sake of argument, lets say $1,000,000 to design both exhaust systems.
I am unsure of the total production numbers for the C63 but again for the sake of argument lets say 1500
C63 = $1,000,000/1500 = $666.66
CLK63 BS = $1,000,000/500 = $2,000
and these numbers do not take into account a profit margin, I would imagine they have a larger profit margin for a CLK63 BS as I would assume the clientele can afford it...
This is just my thought process I could be completely wrong

Rennetech box

Apart from a higher (thicker) box, no major difference with the standard box. It seems that the standard box really restricts airflow and volume of air. I guess that the air intakes up front are also restrictive due to space issue between rad and body.

Independent dynos have shown anywhere from a 10-20whp gain from this box.
Definitely a worthwhile mod if you can find one used.

It appears that is what Renntech does as they require your box. From the pics I have seen it looks like they cut the box in half and add to the height, remove the baffles, and then wrap it in carbon fiber. This is just how it looks to me, I could be wrong
Either way there is no denying that it adds power and it will DEFINITELY be installed on my C43 next year.

Main difference is the 'hump' where the throttle body is which brings in more air. Basically the stock airbox lacks that. You can take a dremel and remove the baffles on the stock box or take out the mesh but it really doesn't do much. Minimal difference if anything. You need the extra volume to make the difference. I have sold a number of these in the past, usually in the $800 range, so basically hold out for one when the turn up every once and awhile (from me ) and you can save a ton of money. But the mod is definitely worth it when buying used...just not paying full. At least you guys don't have to worry about the 55k, 600, or 63 prices for Renntech that's a whole different story.

sounds like airplane
again- I could easily make something like this.
I would just to show you guys, but I no longer have a stock airbox laying around nor a stock "space" to construct on in on my car...
