Soon to purchase my first MERCEDES-BENZ but I need one last concern cleared up.

Hello, I have been researching for weeks trying to decide which Benz to buy. I narrowed it down to the C43, W202 C280, and W140 S420 or S500. I have decided not to buy the C43 due to the above average transmission failure I see mentioned so often. Had it not been for that issue, I would have no problem buying a C43. What I found interesting about this issue, and also confusing, is that the 722.631 transmission used in the C43 is also used in the late model W140 sedans; yet I don't see very many posts about transmission failure in that forum. So my questions are:

Is the 722.631 transmission mainly problematic in the C43?
Does the C43 share the EXACT same tranny unit with the W202 C280?
(By the second question I mean does the C280 have a slightly different design than the C43, i.e. the 722.631 in the C43 vs the 722.6## in the C280.)

"Exact"? No. A C280 has a 722.606. A C43 has a 722.631. There are at least 43 different 722.6 transmissions. On top of that, there were upgrades. Here's an upgrade example, the 722.623 in 2000 used a roller bearing instead of a rather problematic brass bushing used on the same 722.623 from prior years, in addition, the input and output shafts were different to accommodate the bearing change.

I got the info from press kits. Here is a 722.6 transmission application guide. Also, 2000 was the year touchshift was added.
