Im in a bind... need a spring compressor.
Since I had to take the truck down to my parents to deliver my nephews Christmas gift (old school mini bike kinda like trail 90) figured it was a good time to pull the lower control arms and use pops shop press to install the bushings. Like a dumb ***, I figured the spring compressor I had would have been good enough but after getting there and seeing how much compression is needed. Its just not safe and I dont trust it from hurting/killing property or person. Any body in the Portland OR area have a MB style compressor I could rent/borrow for a couple of days? beer? cash? ??

The real thing (spring compressor) are expensive but the only safe way of doing the work. Looks like you are stuck with those contraptions...

Thanks for the link 320.. I bought one just like that. I ended up backing out and putting the car back together till the compressor shows up. I also decided that since I was going to have to wait to get the compressor. I ordered the solid w208 bushings and just going to resell the brand new lemforder w202 bushings.. so If any one needs some hit me up. $50 bucks
Now that I'll soon have the tools, if your in the Portland area and playing with your springs. Beer talks..![Big Grin](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
EDIT- I forgot to say, don't EVER!! attempt to try to use the compressors in the picture. These compressors are for Struts with larger diameter springs.. when I lowered the control arm down, the spring bulged side ways and the compressor started sliding up and around the coil... damn scary good way to get seriously injured or killed.

Why did you chose to go with the W208 bushings over the lemforder? You should go all out and get the K-MAC kit so you can lower your ride and keep the camber in spec.
The majority of my suspension components are Meyle HD, Febi, and Lemforder. Lemforder is a GOOD brand.

Yeah I'll probably end up with the k-Mac kit when/if i get some lowering springs. I just want to make sure I'm 100% happy with the c36 before starting mods. As far as the bushings the w208 bushings are lemforder as well only they are solid rubber on the w208 unlike the w202's factory bushings. This is my Daily driver so got to keep it somewhat civilized.. Other wise id probably just go full poly..

if you're ever in the Seattle area, give me a shout. have pancake style
compressors. also experienced in safely lowering rear control arms with
and without the compressor on the 210s...which, I believe, the 202
shares in design.
sometimes even the pancake design may not work if the springs have
tightly wound coils so one needs to get a little creative

Got the arms out and going to press the bushings tomorrow. Feel good about getting this taken care of. You could feel the car was loose in the corners. Under close inspection one of the bushings was on its way to tearing clear though.

Nice to see the correct tools being used
Looks like you also have the knuckle splitter too
Easy work when you are equipped with the right stuff.

Hey DRB Im glad you chimed in. Hey do you know if there is a proper position the w208 bushings need to be pressed into the control arms?
on the w202 bushings its kinda obvious, but on these solid 208's does anything go?

Damn Jason good idea.. It worked out I'n the end though. It does matter.. The hole I'n the bushing is offset for camber. After a cup of coffee and measuring the tight side of the bushing goes inboard towards the engine.

Would you guys happen to know of a proper one to use for a W203 (C55 AMG)?
I found the following: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mercedes-BMW...item19cbc828e9
Thoughts?

I'm sure my control arm bushings could use some attention by now.
