Removing front door speakers?

Is it possible to remove BOSE speakers mounted on front doors without removing doorcards?
Anyone tried upgrading their front door speakers w/o removing doorcards, or is it a PITA job having to remove doorcard?

I know there's a bolt underneath the speakers metal mesh.

Need to check if my papercone is cracked on drivers door?

If my memory serves me correctly, you can remove the speaker without taking the doorcard off, you remove the screw and then it is a big of magic of pulling/angling the grill piece to 'unclip' it from the doorcard.

I removed the speakers on my w202 back in australia, and put in some 6.5" JL audio speakers and some tweeters up on the dash. I had to modify the speaker cup to hold the 6.5" (dremel out extra space to fit the new speaker) and then it all just bolted back in

I MAY have had to dremel the back of the speaker grill plastic a little also actually. but this part was unseen when put back together so was not a big deal, just helped it sit flusher over the new speaker.

I hope someone else can chime in and confirm I am right about just removing the speaker grill

Here is a photo of the JL 6.5" in the stock speaker cup, I had to trim some plastic off the inner edge to fit the new speaker. simple job if your stock speaker is blown and you need to replace. (I think the stock speakers are a slightly smaller size)

Also, when I secure the speakers to the cup I use SUPER tight zip ties through the screw holes of the speaker/cup and crank em right down. easier than screws especially if the holes do not line up 100%. still holds it rock solid in there though

These were running off an external amp I added also so they sounded great.

G'day mate.
Thankx for the info.

It would be great if I don't have to remove doorcard!

So the conclusion is my factory supplied amp wasn't bad at all even though drivers side frontdoor speaker plays a bit lower.

Replacing my stock amp with another one from BOSE, result was the same, drivers side plays the same as above - a bit lower than passengers side -

The only problem must be my frontdoor speaker playing badly!
I have to check if there's any oxidation or lose connection?

What happens if the speaker cable is bad?
Do they go off when opening drivers door often?
Maybe they are too short?

I asked stealership for a new one, cost $265 dollars in Sweden

Does anyone know partsnumber for front drivers door speaker for a 1999 C43?

You can call Bose directly for a new speaker however I would check the connections in the back of the head unit sometimes.

If you have Bose you must use only Bose speakers.

I would imagine that Bose speakers could be common items on a lot of cars and not specifically for w202's. I stand to be corrected though....

MB EPC gives 2 # for the front left speaker:
A202 820 86 02
A202 820 87 02

Found something in Belgium for 20 euros

to bad I don't understand french.
It doesn't say if it's bose or standard MB speaker?

I'm not sure about the bose system in our cars, is it complete bose speaker system with bose amp or is it standard MB speakers with bose amp?

Luckily I do speak French and it does say that it is an OEM part coming from Mercedes. However it does not say if it's Bose or not ... Sorry I can't help more.

I have a feeling it is a standard speaker with a Bose amplifier. Those on the rear shelf look Bose specific (bigger than standard), or perhaps they are not mounted on standard radio/stereo...
MB EPC gives:
A202 820 33 02 left rear
A202 820 34 02 right rear
installed with option 810 "Sound System"

The only thing "w202" is the speaker enclosure pods for the Bose. As long as you can find the 4.5" Bose speaker in 2ohm it can be used in this casing/amp/system. Many cars had them.

Best is ebay.
