Need help buying new tires

hey guys,
For some reason no matter what, I always seem to buy tires every year :/ This time my tires lasted 20kmiles (bfgoodrich all seasons), the time before that my KDW's only lasted about 16kmiles.

I am properly aligned (as much as possible- and the treadwear is even), but I keep getting crap use out of my tires- sure I turn agressively, but usually only on on/off ramps.

Either way I need new tires that will hopefully be quiet, smooth, and last me a long time!

18" Rims 245 of 255 rear, and 225 front. I believe sidewall is 45 or 40?

I would imagine your tire sizes would be 18/225/45 and 18/255/40 but I could be wrong

I am at 19,000 miles on my Toyo proxes 4 UHP all seasons and will be purchasing some new ones SOON. I have never done a burn out or brake stand but I am definitely guilty of power sliding corners.

Your tire wear seems to be normal to me

normall wear, I would suggest Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 they last pretty long aren't to loud. personally I go with Pirelli p zero they last less and are a bit louder but got the best grip of them all.

Here is a recent thread on tires:

https://mbworld.org/forums/c36-amg-c...es-anyone.html

If you're running 18's, you should probably be running 225/40/18 on the front and 245 or 255/35/18 on the rear. If tread wear and noise are your primary concerns, you'll want to stay away from Max and Extreme performance summer tires. Maybe look at a UHP or Summer Touring tire. Do you see a lot of below freezing weather in NorCal? If so, you may want to look at an all season. Just understand that you that you tend to give up performance for comfort and longevity unless you get into the more expensive tires that can win some of that back. One of the recent Car and Driver issues has a tire comparo and would be worth picking up.

Also, go to Tire Rack and read the customer reviews. They tend to be as unbiased as you can get. Good luck.

Thanks for all the help guys! I've contacted the two people thus far willing to try and help me and we'll see where it goes from there.

Does anyone think that I may have problems running a 235 on the rear where a 245 or 255 should be?

I can't recommend Continental DW or DWS series enough. I run them on all of my cars except the ML. Only because they don't make a 285/50/18 haha.

The only issue you might have is your cruise control not working properly. I ran a 245/45 on my rear as compared to a 245/40 and that was enough to make my cruise control not work at anything over 40 mph. I don't know how far you can deviate before you start seeing issues though.

Hmmm did it immediate cut out everytime you went to engage it? beause I'm on 245/45 now and thats what it does.... I've been trying to trouble shoot it too!

Yeah, it will simply not engage at anything over 40 mph. You can feel it try but not catch. If you are still running a 225/45 front tire, then the wheel speed sensors see different speeds than they expected between the front and rear and won't allow the cruise to engage.

You should be okay running these. The width of the tire doesn't effect the cruise control as long as you have the same diameter (wheel plus tire). Get whatever width you want, just as long as you're running either xxx/35/18 or xxx/40/17. I think a 235 will provide a little bit of a stretched look on a 9" or 9.5" wheel

That's not true. The outer diameter of a tire is a function of all three numbers in a tire size. Change any of the three and it impacts the outer diameter. The first number is the section width of the tire, or the theoretical width of the treaded section. The second number is the aspect ratio of the tire, which relates the side wall height as a function of the section width. The final number is the wheel diameter or the inner diameter of the tire.

Therefore, the outer rolling diameter of a 245/40/17 and 235/40/17 is different. Will it be enough to make the cruise control not function? No, I doubt it. The difference in OD should only be about 4 mm or around 0.15 inches. (40% of the 10 mm difference in width)
