We plan on hill climbing a '98 C43 and need to install race seats. Any advice on mounts or installation tips? Would typical side mounts work or do I need something like a VAC floor mount? We will probably go with something like a Sparco Evo 2 or similar with 6 point harness. I have built up a couple M3's but this is the first AMG car.
thanks for any tips.

I) have never seen any nor photos of 43's with race seats. Perhaps the lower rails are the same with newer versions, so check w203's and more likely w204's.
thanks. I am having a difficult time finding any information on what type of seat base mount works with these cars.

After having removed my seats once for a serious spring cleaning, I know you're going to be shaving off like 200lbs of weight.

Have you looked at the Recaro catalogue? Nice but a bit pricey...

Sorry none of us have the answer, but I do ask that you keep us updated and show us some pics! I'd love to see a properly hill climb-specd C43

Good idea to keep it stock, that way you can limit the costs. However, if I may recommend at least one upgrade... get an LSD!
Hill climbing, at least those you can see in Europe with lots of twisties and hairpins, you need a very nimble and light car, which the 43 is not....!

I'd say at least strip the interior as much as possible in the meantime. If you're going to beninstallin race seats you might as well start now.
Try calling Wedge Engineering to see if they have anything off the shelf for brackets.

They will customize to suit whatever seats you use. But most FIA approved race seats are side mounts, so I think you'd have greater flexibility going with side mounted seats. Unfortunately, a quick look at their catalogue doesn't show a listing for any W202s. The closest is an '01 SLK - so if you can figure out if the seat bases are interchangeable, you could probably use that bracket. Otherwise, if you live in the area I'm sure they could build it up for the car.
