Non-Stock C43s....

I met a man tonight with a 1998 (E36) M3 coupe... It was very nice. Looked stock, minus the exhuast. Well, I found out he had it tuned up to 340hp/340 torque. Wow. That would haul! 0-60 4.7! Top speed 169!
This brought me to thinking of what other modifications I could do on the C43 AMG. Exhuast, internals, CAI, pulleys, headers, chip/software, whatever...
I just turned 16, and the C43 is actually my dad's, but I get it when I go to college (I'm a Junior is HS now). I was looking forward to a Kleemann kompressor, but that's not happening for 2 reasons... First being the mileage. It's not right for a car to be supercharged after X miles (don't know amount exactly, but it's a only a few). We have a hair over 50k on ours now, and that's too many to supercharge it. This is only what I've hear, so I could be wrong, but it seems legitimate. The second reason, is because I want the car to last. I don't want forced induction. Whether the car becomes a collector as the first (second, including C36) AMG on the market, or not, this is a car I could see keeping for a long time. Not necessarily as a daily driver the whole time, but even just in a garage used on the weekends. My dad's car was bought used, but it's been in the family for quite a while. I'm still not used to it. Everday I look forward to riding/driving it. I always find myself pampering it. I just simply love it.
Anyway, I was wondering if anybody had successfully installed ANY modifications on their C43. What was the mod? How much did it cost? How did you go about the installation? Is it safe/reliable? How much power did it add? Are you happy with it? TIA!

WyattH-

As far as your C43 having too many miles to supercharge- you were mis-informed. KLEEMANN has supercharged vehicles with more miles than your C43 has with no problems. KLEEMANN USA has had ZERO drivetrain failures of any kind. Our CLK43K has racked up almost 70.000 miles in a year and a half in the hands of magazine editors, on the track, and just overall hard driving. We haven't had any problems with that car- I drive it everyday. As light as the C43 is, and the power that can be gaind with our kompressor, you'll have a tough time finding anyone who will be able to beat you. 430HP 400TQ.

But how many miles were on the CLK430 when the kompressor was installed? I heard that the engine was already starting to wear, and that it wouldn't be able to take the added stress of the kompressor. I guess I did hear wrong! Good news! That's an option now, but I would have to fight myself if I wanted FI in the car.

Also, an idea that came "back" to me, was dropping a 55 engine in it. I'm sure I could find a low-mileage, S55, E55, CLK55, CL55, ML55, etc. 349 hp engine... It's been done... It's safe... It's powerful. But, what about dropping an 03 CLK55 engine in it? 362 hp... I can't afford that engine now, but in 2-3 years, it will be significantly cheaper, and it would be adding 62 hp, as well as taking many miles off of the car's engine. Does anybody know what AMG did to the 55 engine to make it 362 hp from 349??

Imagine a C55k. Wow. I would guess at least 500 hp. 200 more than stock, and she's quick now. I'd own!

The kompressor system has been on the CLK 43K since the beginning. I believe the car had 2000 miles on it before we installed the kompressor. A quick note on engine wear- Mobil 1 synthetic oil is very good. I've seen engines last well over 500,000 miles with the religious use of Mobil 1 oil every 3-4000 miles. Engine wear does increase with the addition of a kompressor, although only by about 5-7% over the life of the engine.

You would fight yourself if you wanted FI in the car?? Fuel injection?

AMG increased power on the N/A 55 engine by raising the compression ratio to 11.0:1.

C55K- Call MBAutowerks in Atlanta- they've done one exactly like you described, but with a 50-shot of nitrous. Do a search, and you'll find the post. They achieved very impressive numbers!

whyatt,
no offense to you or anyone that's 16
but
unless you've had a lot of driving experience previous to getting your license, i would be careful and patient on making a car 400+hp and driving it full power

now on the stock c43 how well do you think you're doing driving it, do you feel like you've outgrown it?

just some questions to think about
no offense intended so don't take it the wrong way
but often I see a lot of high powered sweet cars wrapped around polls and it's not as a result of car failure, it's driver mistakes that get them there

regards

When I bought my C43, I have just spent 4 yrs making my Integra a rocket rocket. But when I drove the C43 for the first time, I was scared to be exact. So much raw power hand never been under my control and worried that I might abuse it and cause harm to me and others. I now have had it for 6 months alomst and drive it much better. In 28 with just over 11 yrs of driving exp.

Thanks to everyone for the replies.
FI stands for Forced Induction (Superchargers or Turbo).

I'm 16, yes, but I wont be getting the car until I'm 20! Having the power doesn't mean you'll use it. I know that at this time, 302 is too much for me to subjugate, but having it doesn't hurt? Well, yeah, it could, but you get what I'm saying. Why would anybody need 500hp? I've been driving the C43 for about a year, and by all means, am nowhere NEAR tired of it. I'm just thinking of how to make it a little more unique, or customized... or a sleeper!!! Corporate Stealth!!!!

I doubt I will even supercharge it... Hopefully I will find a 55 engine, though. What all is needed with that engine? Transmission? Suspension? Anything? Harnessing that power can't be an easy task.

We use Mobil 1, and change it every 3,000 miles!

Well, if you have to ask......

You have a sweet ride for a 16-year-old. Enjoy it and be safe
