K&N Filters C43 & C230K & ELM 327 OBD2

Just got my first car official "Upgrade" for my C43 and my baby bullet as well. Got two K&N filters for the C43 and 1 for the wife's C230K. And while I was at it I also bought that ELM 327 Bluetooth phone OBD2 scanner. Best money I've spent so far, just wanted to know if anyone had bought these,.
So The blue tooth basically is that, a Bluetooth for your phone and scan and pair with phone. Then Download your choice of OBD2 app for free from Android market.... blah no IOS i think. Anyway scan and found my C43 has CODE P0400 for the EGR, anyone has a tutorial how to clean this? and my C230K has CODE P0304 has a Misfire in cylinder 4 and CODE P0170. Has anyone dealt with P0170 on w202s? kind of trying out allot now a days so some help is greatly appreciated. Kind of thinking that maybe P0304 is also causing P0170 but I cant confirm. Thanks!

Wait, what was the best money you spent? The K&N air filters, or the bluetooth scanner?

So I fixed the P0400 EGR valve leak, clog, whatever. While I had the intake box, maf, valve, tube, off, i replaced the vacuum lines to the rear of the engine that were brittle and cracked. So DIY was this a first as to engine maintenance. It for sure was clogged and I had to remove 2 bolts from the pipe & gasket at the cylinder case and the of the bolts to the valve it self along with the Gasket too. cleaned them up and the pain in the *** was the removing the nut that holds the pipe to the valve. ugh but got it fixed. Cleaered codes and reset, rev it up to the freeway and streets here on La Cienega, Jefferson, Robertson and wow I feel so proud of myself. I have become a wrench monkey.! yay!

Good work mate just be sure to look at everything before getting into the use of wrenches etc. While you where under the air intake box and around the top of the valve covers, did you check to see if the covers are leaking? This is a common problem with M113 (V8) and also M112 (V6) engines. The leaks are usually found on the lower lips and drips onto the manifold. This is a pretty easy DIY job, but you need to be meticulous when cleaning the covers and heads, making sure nothing drops into the engine otherwise you are in deeeeep trouble brother .

When changing the gaskets on the valve covers, use that time to change your spark plugs. Access to and around is made much easier.

Oh another thing, if you want to get into some mechanical work, I can only recommend the use of good quality tools and most important get yourself 2 torque wrenches, one heavy duty one for torquing big nuts and bolts (wheel lugs for example) and a smaller one for the nuts and bolts found on the engine. The valve covers need to be torqued down in sequence and the final torque figure is not very high, something you cannot get with a big torque wrench and certainly not manually.

Good luck for your future adventures and keep us informed. Ask questions too as none are stupid. Remember we probably all went down that road before
